Failing to install from disc

This is the only thing I found for game when doing a system search:

Install switch found
DLL path: C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Elemental\GDF_Elemental.dll
Install directory: C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Elemental\
Game exe path: C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Elemental\Elemental.exe
Failed to initialize windows firewall helper
C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Elemental\DXAtlasWin.exe /w 1024 /h 512 /OUTPUTDIR "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic\screens\" /SCREENPATH "C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Elemental\screens"

It would go through the entire install process then give a fatal error message at the end. I am pretty computer illiterate so would appreciate any advice/instruction you can provide. Thank you.

Ok, first, are you running windows 7?  If you are, install in ANY directory EXCEPT 'program files.'  Need special permission (Administrator access) for that file, and can be a pain.  If you must use 'program flies,' than be sure you have set yourself with appropriate permissions from whereever you are acccessing your PC.

This might help... I'm a newby.. and  a lot of people are away for the 4th holiday.  Hope it helps....

If that was the problem, it should error out before reaching the end. The privelege thing does not impact Elemental once installed.

What was the error message?

I had the same issue when trying to install the game on my new pc (running vista).  I'd tried it a few times without success- it failed at the same point each time.  It looked like it was trying to launch the windows installer at the point it failed.  I'd also tried turning off security settings and firewalls with no success.  I ended up doing an install from impulse (which id had on the system already from gal civ 2).

If you have registered your copy, you can sign into impulse on your account and download the whole game from there.  As for the cause of the issue I have no idea, some windows patch or something?  I didn't have any install issues with the game when I did instal/reinstal on my old pc running xp.
