Opera 11.5 RTM Released

Opera 11.50, codenamed "Swordfish,"  is now RTM and is going like hotcakes (they put a download counter on the page).

The most visible change is an update to the default browser skin. Now the skin is brighter and less “cluttered”.

“The "Featherweight" skin sports a newly styled toolbar with borderless buttons, a new icon set, four default navigation buttons (Back, Forward, Reload/Stop, Wand) in the default toolbar, and a more accessible zoom slider. This new initiative to improve the UI of the browser is not complete yet, with further phases to be realized in upcoming releases.”

- Denis Wong, Neowin.net

The next major addition is in the Speed Dial extensions. Now you can have RSS feed, stock ticker, weather, clock or a photo slideshow. These extensions are accessible through the improved "Add Speed Dial" dialog.  Other important changes include: Synchronized ‘Wand’ passwords, freely arrangible dial tiles, updates to its Presto engine, along with more HTML5 support and some security (like CSS scripting).

Thanks, Denis!

As an Opera user, I must say that 11.5 is a quite nice, stable and has lost a lot of the bugs it had during the beta.

Still can't understand how so few people use it, it's an excellent browser, especially for maintaining an on-line database. I can get up to 1 entry per second thanks to it's use of in-page element keyboard selection options.

Been waiting on the RTM. I have Opera but haven't used it much.

Will Opera 11.5 RTM mess up Windowblinds themes?

Not on my setup, but I generally exclude browsers from WB because they update so frequently... no hope for SD to catch up with that.

Thanks i guess i won't download it now.

Opera did not give you a lot of choice about it (they did not "force" you to download, but made it annoying not to).  So I am not surprised of its download counter is "running up". I have had it for about 3 weeks now.  Not bad.  It takes a few minutes to get use to the no frills interface, but after that, I have no complaints.

The speed dial and HTML5 'tiles' are convenient.... Firefox didn't ask about upgrading... they just did it.

Just an observation but it seems each browser has it own little 'bumps' to contend with.

Here's a bump with Opera. I used it this morning and the text on the bottom of the page was all screwed up. If I scroll up it clears, if I mouse over it it clears but if I scroll down the text is all scrunched up with a line through it and blurry. Doesn't happen with FF or even with IE for that matter.

I just wondered if anyone else has encountered a problem with the latest Opera and WindowBlinds (I assume it's a problem with WB anyway). When I am viewing any webpages in Opera (be it a search result in Google or any website), the text starts to get a black line running through it and appears slightly distorted/in bold. This goes away as I scroll through the page or minimise/maximise the page but then reappears.

This doesn't happen in IE however. Can I tweak WB to stop this from happening?

Thanks.

It would help to test that with Aero, and then a couple of different skins. Then I can report the problem to Opera or put it in their Forums to see if anyone else has the problem and a fix.

To me, the problem seems random and skin specific... not in Aero, but in a few skins.

*edit:

Give a try with changing the browser font to Verdana from Times New Roman and Consolas.

I just tried a number of WB skins and it seems to effect pretty much everything apart from the Aero skins (default Microsoft or Stardock versions).

Doc is playing on the side of caution and that can be a very good thing. However I have been using Opera for years and have never excluded it. Saying that I also never had any problems with any SD products.

I have been using opera, and then the tailored version of opera called 'pale moon,' for about six months now.  I have not experienced the text scramble you describe.  OS is Xp, and that may be the reason?

Pale Moon is a Firefox derivative, Elana...

Could be the problem we're seeing is W7 Cleartype related... I don't know. The XP/Opera info is interesting, though. It could also be WB/Opera related, though. Hard to tell except that it doesn't exist in Aero, so I don't think it's Cleartype related, and it didn't happen with earlier versions of OPera and WB7.

Makes me think it has something to do with the Presto engine.

Pale Moon is a Firefox derivative, Elana...  opps my bad.   Good thing is this derivative is safer than the ones on Wall street.
