Who’s Going to Market Your Photos?

So cool!  We can post pictures on line and have family and friends comment about us, our kids, our pets, vacations, activities…

We’ve turned the web into a truly image rich environment: So much so that folks see ways of making money any which way.

These are all seven of the image services that Twitter's native app recommends when you first begin using the app: Twitpic, yfrog,

img.ly, Posterous, Mobypicture, Lockerz, and twitgoo.

The ones which will:  Twitpic, Twitgoo

Which won’t:  Mobypicture, Posterous, yfrog

Which don’t specify:  img.ly, Lockerz, Imgur

To me, this matters. You might post a screenshot here and there on the web…. of a skin or wall you created, but now have no

rights to distribute. Worse, you could be sued for doing it. How about this: You take  pictures of your mom, dad, kids and post them.

Now, if you do that on certain sites, they can be sold as models or stock photos to advertise whatever, and not only do you and the

folks you photographed not have any say,  you and they aren’t remunerated either.

You’d better start reading TOS’s and understanding them before joining and posting your stuff: There's no telling what you’ll lose rights to.

Also, start using the social media themselves: If you like the TOS let them and your “friends” know. If you don’t? Let folks know why. They might not have read the TOS.

Sent a request to imgur for clarification. I know for a fact they're decent, but I also know that they use pics that become popular in the gallery, which they can make money off.

If you don't look after your copyright you can be damn sure no-one else will.

Remember Yahoo's buyout of "Geocities" and then followed their little change advising that they "owned the rights" to all blogs, web content and images posted there?

Trust no one (with a corporate logo). :ninja:

I learned to never trust a committee, or group (corp or otherwise) - only trust individuals who have earned your trust.  Its your copyright - only if you protect it.

Never have... never will [with one exception.. Stardock]

To me, a corporate logo is something that filthy stinkin' rich bastards who reek of greed hide behind to do unspeakable acts to competitors and consumers alike, just to get away with it.

For mine, all corporate big wigs should have a cyanide tipped dildo shoved where the sun don't shine... then be forced to sit in a bucket of quick dry concrete...

... the concrete aids in the disposal of the body...  they stay sunk  after yer toss em' in tha sewer, hehe.

Are those the nude ones, the semi-nude ones... or the ones where he's dressed in a gorilla suit while trying to insert a banana in his....?

Not that I wanna swap with any I've got or anything... but I would be interested in the one where he's on roller skates and wearing a pink tutu while showing us his ancestors while gliding low under a moving bus to avoid a collision with a guy who's in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most species of undomesticated rodents in his hair.

Yup, that' one's as rare as rocking horse manure. :-"

From imgur,

Hey *****,

We do not sell your uploaded pictures at all, nor do we claim copyright for them. However, just like any site, there may be an ad on the page where your image is. You are of course still free to use it commercially, or in any other way you want.

All files are copyrighted © to their respective owners. Imgur directs full legal responsibility of files to their respective users.

Let me know if you have any more questions; I'd be happy to help.

Hi Heavenfall. Thanks for sharing with us. I said their TOS was unclear... not that they sell or don't.

Thanks for making them clarify for us all.
