Not going anywhere for awhile?

Basically this is for all the players that wish they could of been in the first dominion 3 game and missed the chance or had some bad luck and were knocked out of the first game.

Guidelines:

               1) yea,its a noob game,so lets see if we can keep it to under 10 MP games played. Naturally exceptions can be made hence the guidelines category. just please be honest and state your experience level upfront.

               2) We'll vote on a map to use and what mods if any.

               3) Feel free to suggest away here,I'm just starting the bandwagon not trying to be the band leader.

Oddly this game seems to have triggered the 1st turn already, even though Marverni never got a pretender in.

Might be just as easy to kill this game are restart it, but let's wait a bit and see how this shakes out.

 

GP-  Not accusing you of anything.  Server based is great too I'm sure, just I've never done it :)  My point was that for this crap right now with llama, it's not usually like this.  If someones ISP/telcom screw them then it won't matter server or pbem, the game will pause until that issue is resolved.

I've got another 8 player map if we want to change.  It's a balanced 8 player start as well.  So long as everyone can get DotM not an issue.

I'm here..have a situation that will require a trip to Georgia for me next Thursday. I will get my pretender uploaded tonight,naturally when i tried the server was down earlier in week.

Unless you fellows are in a hurry to start right now?

The game will start as soon as your pretender is in I believe.

 

If you need an extension on any turn just post here and either wonderloss or myself can set it.

 

DotM is the map wonderloss generated for us.  If you don't have it, you need to DL it.

Just stick it in the map folder in the dom3 folder.  The tga should come with the turn file to let you play, otherwise you can't run this map without making/acquiring a tga from somewhere.

Sorry...about the delay.

 

Sending in my pretender now.

 

Seems i am possibly too much of a noob to play a MP game.

My Dominions3 game folder has: 1)battlemaps folder

                                               2)doc folder

                                               3)maps folder

                                               4)rawsound folder

                                               5)tutdata folder

 

I followed the steps but there is no savedgames folder,though I have 6 to 8 games currently saved. Are there 2 different folders? I'm a bit perplexed at the moment and if you all would rather not wait for me I understand.

Have a look in: (your user)/Appdata (which may be hidden by default!)/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files x86/Dominions3/savedgames/newlords

Win 7 is my OS

 

Did the advanced settings show hidden folders,files and drives............no help. So unless there is a simply obvious solution where you need to draw me a picture in crayon just start without me.

I'm also using Windows 7, and my pretenders files are at the location I listed. It's a fairly common problem, and the llamaserver faq lists it...
Here's the full path:

C:\Users\**username**\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\dominions3\savedgames

If you want search for the file, they're named like so: early_caelum_0.2h. Just replace caelum with your race of choice.

Simple it seems...setup back and I already issued orders for turn 1. With 8 of us on this map looks like contact in 3 to 5 turns.

Man, I hope not contact that soon.  Unless both players are rushing at each other.  Turn 1 you usually don't attack anything, unless you took an out of the box SC, and most nations only have one expansion army for the first 5+ turns, depending on what kind of indies you are up against.  I wouldn't worry about super early contact though, wonderloss vetted the map starting locations, so hopefully it's not the issue it was in the other game.

WOW Shrapnel still hasnt updated that FAQ? Shrapnel got their own Chat, and that IRC channel is almost entirely run by people banned from Shrapnel. There are other IRC channels for Dom3 but each forum tends to create their own. Doesnt StarDock have its own favorite irc server for channels? Quakenet would work

I don't see anything in that change log which would have ramifications to this game.  But if it comes in the next couple days I don't mind restarting.  Otherwise you can upgrade mid game, just have to be sure everyone patches between the same turns.

 

Yeah, maybe they should upgrade that IRC link, but meh, the people banned from shrapnel seem to be the ones doing most of the mod work anyway.  Anyway, it's a place to go, if you have other IRC channels you prefer feel free to drop them.  I'm happy to chat anywhere :)

I'm ok with waiting for the patch, or not, whatever the group likes is fine by me.  

I have never done IRC.  This is a chat and/or IM system?   IF diplomacy is going to be done there, how do i safely get involved, without all the 'strangers promising candy' IM-ing me?. 

I'm open to trading gems, etc.   The pixypost is open for businessO:)

No, they are not. They are victory points. They are automatically added, but they only matter if victory points are on. They are not on for this game, so they have no effect.

That channel is good for hard modding questions if you can take the sarcasm. But for server, or mapping, or 3rd party stuff, not so much. And for general game Q&A you are better off creating your own IMHO. And for a single game for diplomacy and such, definitely make your own room. For ease with people who have no IRC you can use the Shrapnel CHAT button for that since its just webbased

 

The other thing about patches is that players tend to fall off the play lists if they have a torrent copy

Well if anyone has a torrent then they are going to be screwed either way.  I guess we'll see ;)

 

And you don't have to use IRC Elana, it just may be easier in some cases.  Also the shrap one never seems to have anyone on it.  Well it matters little, whatever makes sense.  The post I linked to also has a web based chat program linked in it.  I wouldn't worry about the 'bad people' on IRC so much.  Unless you go wondering off from the #dominions channels anyway.

I still havn't found my Dom3 manual, so, may I sk what the icons/symbols on the map represent:  speciffically

prov 58, a tent.

provs 42, and 77 biped, in blue outline, holding a flute like object

prov, two poles, one with 1/2 a face

68, a blue blob,m with several blue sylinders sticking up.

shadowtongue, why would the main modders be the ones banned from shrapnel site?  Makes no sense....they are adding value to shrap 's product, Dom3?
