a 50% farewell, am splitting my time elsewhere

Just a note to all my friends here that i will be now devoting more time to daz studio and creating characters and selling them (on daz)

i will still be here and creating stuff, but only for about 50% of my time now. the rest is devoted to the circus of the insane and daz.

no hard feelings, still love being a master, but i need to try to start making a decent income from my art. I need to live, not just survive.

and to be frank, id rather be involved with a site where the site actually works and they are devoted to removing bugs from all their programs

that artists need and depend on.

The good thing is: You'll still be here.  :inlove:

But 2 questions:

1. what is circus of the insane?

2. what is daz?

Good luck with everything you have in mind.  :sun:

Ok, thank you DC. I downloaded the program (I think i can't do anything wrong for free  )

I wish you the very best Vamps if someone earns to make cash for its art it is you, I have never seen someone that creative and ambitious as you over the past years here on wincustomize .
And i think your a jewel that will be clearly missing (in the circle of Masters) uhm and of course in the Forum and the release section here on Wincustomize, but as you will still be here and there and do your thing and be happy with it thats what counts and as long as your successfull in doing it - no doubt that you will be, the community will be happy.
As a ZBrusher i wish you only the best on your path.

Congrats on the new job, Kitty! Damn, I'm kinda envious...I wish I could actually make a living through art but guess it'll be the ole day to day grind for me 'til I croak. I do have a great hobby 'tho! Good luck...seriously!

Okay. Either I missed something or no one else is gonna bring it up.

Why aren't you selling your skins here??????

I noticed a few folks went 'free' with their Master skins. I suppose it's a matter of choice and I haven't questioned it until now. Choosing not to sell the skins is one thing, but then when you post you don't have the funds to renew your script for OD and then this, I am confused. I would think even skins that may not sell that well would cover the cost of a script for OD. I'm not being sarcastic, I just don't get it.

Site seems to be working well for me recently, and i know for a fact that Neil Banfield works tirelessly and constantly at improving WB, SKS, among others.

Having said that, good luck with whatever you find yourself doing in the future, creativity knows no bounds when accompanied by large amounts of caffeine.

What's your vendor name Vamps? So I can keep an eye out for your characters ... |-)

Good for you, Kitty!  I'll miss you, but you know you're in my heart every day whether you're posting or skinning or not -- we're just skinning sisters and that's forever.

The fonts for the toolbar buttons in SkinStudio have been messed up for quite a while; if you remove all the UIS2 title bar buttons and put in new images the close button doesn't close unless you save the action as something other than close first and THEN go back and save it as close.  I appreciate Neil and all he does, but these things have been posted before and nothing has been done to correct them.

Great good luck with your new venture, girl. Go gettum! ;)

Hmm.. haven't had any of those issues personally. Fonts seem to work fine here, and never had an issue with the UIS2 buttons.

U might try using SKS 5, I still build all my skins initially in it, then go to the later version for Vista and 7.

Where there's a will.... :)

Best wishes to you and your endeavors! I have followed your work here over the years and have always been able to spot your enjoyment in creation. May that enjoyment always be with you. Talent is a gift, enjoyment is priceless..

yeah... but not a great amount of creative satisfaction is gained in working at putting the time and effort into a blind when there's a whole lot not getting to enjoy it... many want free and just won't buy masterskins.... so... depends where your priorities and practicalities lie...

I understand , but pleeeeeease make sure you're presence remains here at least 50% of the time!!-    I learned in Girl Scouts years ago this:   "Make New Friends, but keep the old-- one is silver but the other is Gold"

I hope that when you get to it- you can still make that Gemstone Windowblinds-     I'll be the first to download and install it--wether on my little XP machine, or my father's Mega Windows 7 PC!--

Hugs! <X3

The disabled font and the pushed font in the toolbar buttons are transposed.  The work around, of course, is to just skin them knowing this; however that doesn't negate the fact that SKS7 is messed up in that regard and it's not being addressed by Stardock and/or Neil.  As you, yourself know, being a skinner sometimes means being annoyed by the little things.  If it's not perfect, it's going to annoy.

????

I recall one skinner HAD to stop selling skins or risk getting cut off from their main income...and...correct me if I am wrong because I cannot find the thread or it has been deleted...but Vamp stopped selling and said 'she didn't need the money'?  So this is why I am confused.

I haven't posted anything as a Master skin yet and I admit my ignorance in the whole matter as far as what anyone is generating in revenue...but still...20 or so skins sold would pay for a subscription, right?

I guess I feel like something is missing in all of this and I have a hard time when things don't make sense...and this doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm fine with Vamp getting busy on another site and all....everyone has the right to advance themselves and all that..no argument there...I just don't understand what the issues are with THIS site.

Good luck for all your projects, Kitty. Your art is definitely a deserving one...

I'm sure (oh, well, I really hope..) you will not forget about WinC, and sometime you will give to the Community some other "jewels"...

Hope you will get what you deserve, and you will be happy doing your new "job".

P.S. don't forget to post a link to your daz creations...

Vamp....

Sell your work HERE as well.

You EARNED your title BECAUSE in part of the quality of your work. It's GOOD.

Shit, I can't even put a damn skin together,

You need to do what you gotta do. That's a given. You should also take advantage of what you earned, merited, etc. I think I can speak for a lot of folks when I say you have our full support. Even from around the world, it's possible  for your friends to still 'have your back'. ;)

Kitty....from the heart. you're good people and a wonderful artist. You have a rare talent that will go very far in life. Gonna miss you and I'm kinda hopin' you'll take Po up on the offer to sell your creations here as well as letting us know how to get to the newbies you got cookin'. Links to your creations I mean. Good luck with this love. I think you deserve it. BTW...Do I still give you vertigo? I haven't forgotten that from way back when.

Huggles from me too. <3 <3

......well, the main reason why i stopped selling skins was because i just couldnt justify the amount of time i put into a skin to recieve 40%

of the profits, i know the site needs support ect, but im also an aussie, so i lose another 10 dollars on top of whatever is left for me to recieve.

and......its not alot. Plus alot of people complain about 5 dollars and well, that does get on my nerves when other places sell things for 30 dollars plus and no one bats an eyelid so to speak.

i do recieve a disability pension from my government as i am unable to work due to my mental illness, but i dont think they would care about the

amount i got from masterskins since its such a little amount.  i think for me its about 100 a fortnight or something and you have to tell them,

but i have never even come close to that amount, so that wasnt my issue.

probably at the time when i said i didnt need the money, i probably didnt, but my circumstances have changed.

and it only takes something so minor like a car registration or a breakdown of a washing machine to alter my circumstances 360.

but that being said, im not trying to play a violin here......im okay.

and to be frank i am still more than happy to sell my skins for free here, i get more pleasure NOW out of doing stuff for others, (i had a major artistic attitude adjustment last december)

as for sk6, it does have issues johnny, you should try creating a new skin in xp, and go to my documents as soon as youve created a new skin and applied it, the whole document window is covered in a blue and yellow image that is tiled over the whole window.

ive told neil about it, nothing is done, okay, i KNOW he is busy ect, but seriously, why cant this stuff just be fixed? it makes it so much more

easier for us skinners. fonts and other stuff ect, the list goes on as karen said.

but i dont want to go into that debate, its seems to be one of those 'to do lists'

id like to see it fixed in the future, it gives a brighter outlook to sk.

i also get tired of bugs on this site too, but thats another issue also, and there is no point going their either.

so now my situation is basically i DO need income, and im just turning to another resorce where i am sure i can generate it, and enjoy it.

but as i said before, i still will be here, helping, skinning, taking requests, (gem wb, fur wb) but only 50%

i hope i havent upset anybody by this.......but its just the way the dark side is taking me, and im following.

xx

I agree with Po, Kitty.  I still think you should charge for your skins.  Even though it's not much, it's still something, and if you didn't spend it, but put whatever you got from your skins in a tea kettle or something, and saved it, you wouldn't have to scramble when the washing machine broke down.  (This is something I'm learning about due to my bankruptcy -- a person needs an emergency fund.  At least a little amount needs to go into the piggy bank once a month before any "fun" items get purchased.)  What's wrong with selling your skins AND selling your Daz characters?
