Some thoughts on this.
I re-read some of the transcripts of Weiner interviews from before the confession. What a vile excuse for a human being, knowing now the truth he knew while tongue-lashing and trying to shame others for having the 'nerve' to ask him questions and glibly, repeatedly making penis jokes with or in the presence of female reporters. He was playing defense by launching a coldly calculated offensive (pun intended); he apparently asked for some of those interviews, particularly Maddow's. Scum is too kind a word. So I'm not buying the 'sincerity' in his confession; my opinion is that once he knew it was over, a calculated salvage operation was his only hope. I'm no prude, it's not the 'sex'. It's simply... OMG. And the KOS/DU/LGF crowd, with few notable exceptions, just skate right past all that and either defend him as victim ("who hasn't been caught lying?"), praise him for 'coming clean' or condemn Brietbart as a 'shitstain', one of the nicer sobriquets they use for him.
I can't imagine his wife would or could even get near him again, let alone forgive him, if she watched/listened to those interviews. Then again, there's Hillary; though I doubt she's ever been 'near' Bill, in any meaningful sense of the word, since Monica.
I could envision Bill Maher being buddies with Weiner - they seem to share a certain ethos - but not John Stewart.
