A request for naming help

A request for naming help

I'm looking for some good names.  They need to be short, descriptive (in that the name has to be easy to relate with what it does), flavorful (have a little style) and thematic (they need to sound appropriate to FE).  Let me know if you guys come up with any ideas.

I've already accepted the following ideas.

Unit Abilities:

Adventurer- Unit starts at 2nd level

Master of Arms- Increases the crit chance all units in this units army (oera)

Faction Abilities:

Master Smiths- Halves the metal and labor cost of armor and weapons (Nathikal)

Serpents's Pact- Gives the faction the ability to recruit Naja, Ophidian, Drakes and Forest Drakes (snakes and lesser dragons) (Nathikal)

Armor:

Fists of the Sun- A magical gauntlets that helps protect the wearer from cold (kapeman)

Shield of Summer- A magical shield that helps protect the bearer from cold (Nathikal)

Weapons:

Hailstone Staff- A staff that adds cold damage to attacks (Nathikal)

Heartseeker- A sword that increase the chance to score criticals and increases the damage done from criticals (dsraider)

Galeblade- A sword that gives a huge bonus to accuracy and combat speed (Nathikal)

Spells:

Guardian Wind- Tactical spell that gives all your allies a bonus vs missile attacks (unacomn)

Monsters:

Clambercoil Dragon- Better name for a Green Dragon (Crystlshake)

Ashwake Dragon- Better name for a Red Dragon (Crystlshake)

Ravenous Harridan- Better name for a Giant Black Widow Spider (DSRaider)

Keep the ideas coming and I'll add things I need names for as they come up.  You guys are doing a great job, thanks!

Still Needed:

?- Sovereign weakness that reduces Constitution by 3 and only allows the unit to heal 1hp/turn (normally a unit heals level/turn and double that when they re in a city).  I thought about "Scarred" or "Frail" but I'm not a huge fan of either.

The hell is a "clambercoil"?

Also, do you really need a "special" name for a magic breastplate that... "increases defense", beyond what a normal breastplate would? Isn't that pretty much every piece of "magic" armor, in every game, ever?  Why not just "magic breastplate"? Save the fancy names for really special things that have more distinctive characteristics.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas.  If I need more I'll bump this thread and ask for them.  You guys are awesome!

What happened to the defensive armor? It's not on the accepted list. Did none of our ideas make the cut? :)

EDIT/

*blind* Dsraider already asked it.... -.-

The hell is a "clambercoil"?

A name derived from 'to clamber' (climb over) and coil evokes a snake like creature and is also a winding action.  In effect its meant to have the imagery of a vine climbing over a tree- it takes a while but it can get to the point where it 'strangles' the tree by depriving it of resources (water and primarily sunlight) since it can grow faster than the tree and prevent it from getting enough light.  I also remember watching a vine in time lapse and you can see it corkscrewing as it grows.  Taproots and runners can function similarly.  Some species of plants thrive with this hostile takeover method.

And now you know the rest of the story. O:)

Have a new one I need help with:

?- Sovereign weakness that reduces Constitution by 3 and only allows the unit to heal 1hp/turn (normally a unit heals level/turn and double that when they re in a city).  I thought about "Scarred" or "Frail" but I'm not a huge fan of either.

As Charles Barkley might say, "lackadaisical" or "lackadaisical fortitude".

broken/maimed/schizophrenic/diseased/broken (arm/leg/whatever)/Feverish/constipated/addicted/drunk/sick/in a stupor/shocked over X event

could tie the whole thing to a loss of family/good friend - depression.

My suggestion: go magical:  Dralnort's Blight.

A virulent and incurable disease accidentally created by the foul sorcerer Dralnort before the Cataclysm, Dralnort's Blight creates weakness and frailty in its subject if they have the potential to channel magic.

Something like this would be good as its flavorful and it would make sense that there would be strains of ailments original to the world or slang for the same (such as 'the bends'). The angle of using it as filling in part of the sov background also has appeal. Could tie it to one of the titans or something relating to wasteing, rot or disease.

Otherwise going the route of a weakened immune system, I'll throw up Malnourished and Thin Blooded (which if i remember correctly, is slang in the vein of the aforementioned blue blood sugestion).

Edit:  You could also approach it as a flawed connection to what makes them a channeller- approaching it as a type of backlash or harmfull side effect (over exposure/saturation?) of the magical energy.

Inbreed, weak, debilitated, enervated, feeble, soft, effete.

I also like the idea of a magical contagion for this type of penalty. In my mind, it would be even better if it were attached to an in-game quest, such that the particular sovereign might come across an old laboratory with notes concerning the contagion and lead the player on a quest to both discover a bit of lore about the world and put an end to his own suffering. Combining merits and flaws with quests would allow the player to connect with his sovereign while also promoting players to try different combinations with each game.

A slightly different take on it:

Rake - or Infamous Rake (nod to The Witcher) - Your Sovereign spends their strength on dubious activities, and don't recognize a bed as a place for rest.

I'd also think something like Porphyria or The Noble's Disease would be a historical take on it.

Just in case it hasn't been decided already.

I concur with this idea as well. How about "Magic Seep," "Cursed Drain," or "Fatigue of the Attuned?"

Of course, if you don't want the magic connotation, "Fatigue," "Fervor Drain" or "Apathy" would work, too.

"Royal Bleeder" - with reference to Queen Victoria's genetic predisposition to haemophilia

- Sovereign weakness that reduces Constitution by 3 and only allows the unit to heal 1hp/turn

Tainted, Weakling, Leper

Fleeting / Withered / Withering / Diseased / Sickly / Exhausted / Weakened - Sovereign weakness that reduces Constitution by 3 and only allows the unit to heal 1hp/turn

EDIT: I also like the idea of magical names for some conditions, but if those are used there needs to be a delicate balance to make all condition names fit together.
