ParticleForge 3 problem

I've been trying to use particle forge 3, i'm running windows 7 professional 64-bit. .NET 4, and i have the particle forge stuff in the sins of a solar empire folder.

whenever i start it up, i get an immediate "ParticleForge.exe has stopped working" error which dis-appears in the blinkk of an eye.

upon checking the event logs, it gives me this:

Do not put PF in the root folder. Run the PF from a folder on your desktop. If you installed to the root folder chances are you overwrote updated files with really really old files. Do a Verify install with impulse.

Once particle forge is in its own folder on your desktop you can update with newer files from the root directory.

Sins of a Solar Empire

Verify Installation

For those that do not know, there is a function in Impulse which can be used to verify an installation and repair possible errors with that installation.

You can get to it by Shift + right clicking on a game or application as shown here.

What this does is verify the installed files against what is on the server. If any files do not match up, Impulse will notify you and prompt you for an update which would re-download/install the mismatched files. This function does have it's limitations however.

This feature does not work on most third party products, especially games. If the game/application modifies any one of the installed files, Impulse will see this change and replace the file with one from the server. This can result in the game/application being totally broken and at that point a full download/re-install is necessary.

This function does work as intended with all Stardock games/applications. So if for instance SoaSE was having problems, you can verify the install and if problems are found, the update will take care of it.
