The signs showed up a couple of weeks ago along the main arterial street nearest my house (1/8 of a mile away).  We should shortly expect 'Road Work' brought to us by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The 'reinvestment':

Replacing perfectly good and undamaged 'ridged' handicapped corner access sidewalk ramps with new rust-colored ramps with nipples instead of ridges.

At least 10 guys and a cop were employed for 2 days at the intersection nearest my place.  They are moving down the road doing intersection after intersection, all of which already have perfectly functional ramps.

We are so screwed.

If it aint broke, fix it, that way you look like you are doing something good. This is kinda like taking a product and giving it a new color and a few minor cosmetic changes and then state you fixed it or created it yourself.

They'll be back in less than a year to install traffic lights on that corner & have to redo the job.  It's how they roll.

Just think, they will eventually need to put traffic cams in too ... another major overhall in the making. I guess this gives a new meaning to shovel ready jobs. We had our perfectly good light poles replaced twice now ... and they are rusting as well as one would expect. The wooden poles did not rust, humm...

They've just completed stripping the (perfectly OK) street surface along the same street and repaving it.

But it's Obamasphalt, so it's OK.
