Rebellion Minor Feature Request

Planet, Ship, AI & Militia names

The ability to have

  • Ship names
  • Planet names
  • AI/Militia names

generated from empire-specific lists, i.e., Tech, Phase, Psi.

This in order to allow naming schemes that are consistent for each empire.  Tech could be modded to have all "Terran" name references,Vasari with "alien sounding" ones, etc.

Well it would be hard to do planet names because only homeworld start out colonized... and as only TEC ships are used for militias right now that would be only useful for modding (which I certainly support, but practically it serves no purpose). By ship names do you mean for frigates... because that is exactly how capitalship names work... o_O

It might be fun if there were a way for players' to make their own individual lists.  Of course, in online multiplayer you would end up with all sorts of vulgar names, but that just adds to the fun of it.

Yes,
 auto change planet name to whatever you have in your list in order, as you colonize it, would be pretty cool.

An optional  value just needs to be added to planets, players and militia that points to stock, Psi, Phase, Tech or Militia variants of the current names.  Players could mod the lists as they do now.

pirate class ships could be named after known pirates, real or imagined.   such as cpt kid, blackbeard.

Currently I change the name of all my Ships and Planets in game. :-) My favorite title as the Vasari for a capitol ship is to list it as "Ship of Doom!" and send it marching through an enemie's gravity well!

I would request making the ship/station/planet name character limit longer. I cant even name my ship TDN Enterprise without it being cut off.

And ability to also name fleets would be uber cool.

i also agree with the longer naming sceme and the abillity to custamise planet and ship names, i find that after playing the game the generic name that the computer assings to each sip type become dry and rather boring it would be cool if it would assing a random name to each ship built, thid would add to the uniqueness of the game.

I'm not so concerned about the naming scheme as we can already rename our ships and our planets. A longer name box would be nice however.

 

Custom name lists should be an option for Mods though I do not believe they are necessary for vanilla sins and it's expansions / rebellion.

It's in mods where it would be a great benefit.

If I pre-designate a list to reflect the naming of TEC ships after famous Terran ones like "Enterprise", "Constitution", etc.,Vasari ones to have distinctly alien names like "Gr'Shohk", "Snarlnth", etc. and Advent to be "Mountain of Holiness", "Ascended Prophet"....then they all come out a bit off when they get randomly mixed.

If you have a themed mod with distinct backstory or rationales for name this matter and it's  true for the Militia factions too.

There already are galaxy map options for "inGameName" and "overideRace" but they don't seem to work as intended.  Perhaps these could be actually fixed?
