[MOD] Axeldude's Additional Planets Mod (Last update: 01/16/2012)

http://axeldude3.wordpress.com/

PLEASE VISIT MY NEW THREAD

Hey guys,

So I've been getting into making planet textures for sins (on the normal planet model, not the optimized one). Since I don't know alot about modding, like adding them on new planets, changing atmosphere color, etc.. I'll leave them here for anyone who likes them.

I'll be uploading some more if any of you guys are interested, also, tell me what you think, currently only have 2 textures "ready"

As I said I only made some textures, if you know how to mod planets I'm sure you can change to aura/atmosphere to a more fitting to the texture :)

So a short sumary:

The textures use the normal mesh.
Best to use with other planet glows/atmospheres.
No DA.
Free to use in any mod, just credit me if you like.

This is the download link for the textures I already made, more tba :) next up I'll try some more planets that are not as habitable.

Feedback would be nice, thanks!

Tadaaaaaa, here's the download link for the textures I already have, it's been a long wait but I've been busy at work and Battlefield 3 has been consuming alot of my free time.

You can use this in your mod however you want, just give proper credits! :)

Also, if people have requests, shoot, I will be happy to try and make the best of it!

Awesome!

Karma for you. k6

Looks nice, I might have to split the ice planets into two different planet types at the rate you're going with them.

How would I use these textures in regular diplomacy? I'm not a modder, but these textures look fantastic and I'd love to use them.

The easiest way (for you) with the least amount of modding required is to make a mod folder for your mini-mod. Then rename his textures to match the current Sins texture names. These would go in your mini-mods Textures folder.

The slightly more difficult but not very complicated way is to get textual versions of the planet entity files and meshes and mod them into the game.

Most icy satellites in Sol fit into two categroies: Those which are roughly equal parts ice and rock throughout; those which are predominantly ice with a rocky core.

Might be a good means to divide the meshes, plus each type can have a separate set of applicable traits. Crap, now I have one more thing I would want to fit into DS. Man, I am going to mini-dump like mad.

Yup, that was kind of what I was thinking, except more along the lines of those with a lot of frozen water and those that either don't have much ice of any sort or whose surface consists of other frozen materials. Problem is I can't think of a good name for them. Polar? Desolate? Frigid? :S

Excellent, that worked great. Thanks!

The only reason I suggest proportions of frozen material is because past a certain point, most of the planets in a solar system will be frozen and, much to the surprise of some, the bulk actually is frozen water. That and gases like methane will produce periodic sublimation.

Anyway, I think the difference in names should be Ice and Rocky Ice planets. The latter suggests more solid mass to the planet while still conveying the familiar information.

The lush is awesome but the gas giants need a bit more work. Jupiter often has some pretty defined clouds in its atmosphere. Of course Neptune doesn't  so maybe make another similar to Jupiter's clouds might be better.

There are various types of gas giants, Jupiter like and Neptune like, trying to keep the colors realistic. Just saying I'll make some like Jupiter too, dw! That'll be something for when I get home from work :D

if you are going for realistic gas giants, include this too: B)

Merry Christmas and a happy newyear to all!

Wanted to say I'll be working on my own planet mod the next weeks (including icons, bloaargh), hoping to release it somewhere in January. Check my blog for further updates!

While I don't claim that mine are the best icons ever made, I already made pictures and icons for the set of textures you originally released. If you like I can send them to you.

Photoshopped or is that a photoshopped texture in game?

Nope, that is a real shot from space of him.  All the other images of him being human sized are the photoshopped ones.  XD

In game the planet would have to have an ability point at the mouth that resource drains capital ships.

If you don't mind GoaFan, that would be awesome ;)

I'll see if I can make them better (if that is needed ofc. :) )

Oh, I wanted to ask you, can I merge your mod with mine? I like all the stuff you did with culture etc :)

Sure, though assuming you're only messing with new planet entities and the GalaxyScenarioDef file, you could actually use the mods together already, it would just disable the random encounters feature of the mod (and perhaps cause some string errors). If you want those in I mainly just changed/added some planet templates, though I had to edit the default templates for a couple of planets too. If you just used my mod's GalaxyScenarioDef file as a base instead of Vanilla's it shouldn't be any extra work.

If you want to completely integrate my mod with yours, just make sure you put "Contains the Enhanced 4X mod by GoaFan77" in the credits. The other, more flexible option would to put that modified GalaxyScenarioDef/string/entity.manifest files as a compatibility patch, which would allow people to choose whether they want to add my mod with yours or not. It would also make it easier to update, as you only need to worry about those 3 files, and we might be able to set it up that either of use could update the compatibility patch for when we need to release a new version.

"IE a giant terran planet can hold alot more population than a small desert planet."

You would also weight 2x as much. No one I know would go to a planet where shovelling donuts in their face is too much work. Dwarf terran would fill much faster as humans are prone to be fat lazy slobs if we had the chance.

I would give the Giant Terran a minus gravity bonus ( more build time, slow growth rate) and the Dwarf a plus gravity bonus (less build time, faster growth rate)
