simple easy image cropping tool

really basic

I am looking for a very easy, simple image cropping tool.  I don't need bells and whistles.  just want to crop excess off sides, top of a digital image so it is small enough in size to upload.  Ms paint doesn't seem to allow this.  And i tried three 'tools' via search and found nasty stuff that forces installing google tool bar, and redirects.  There must be an easy program, like paint, that will do a simple and easy crop the sides and top of photo away?  appreciate help.. thank you

Have you tried Irfanview?  You can select a portion of the screen and "Crop selection" (Ctrl-Y).

Best regards,
Steven.

For MS Paint, you press Ctrl + A, and then click drag the image to remove the excess on the top and left sides of the image. Then click outside to be able to resize the canvas by dragging the small black square in the bottom right.

When you click on the :maybe: in the right upper corner of Paint you get the help... above. :)   Hope this prevents you downloading something not so good. ;)

Using the explicit crop command is problematic in my experience. When you select an area and it is not what you want then you have to deselect and try again (trying to resize resized the selected portion, and dragging it moves the select part of the image). Hence my suggestion, it is easier to get it right with less work.

If you have Win 7 then in your start menu should be the snipping tool. You can set that to full screen or rectangle and do all your cropping there without installing anything. I use it and it works great. Very easy too.

Actually there was a version of that tool for XP (which was better than the Vista version), but it took some searching to find on Microsoft's site (this was back before Vista). I only found it because my Latin teach showed the class it and how to get it.

I have the snipping tool and use MS Paint for cropping/resizing. (as a note, I think pratically every program that can work with images that MS has created is able to crop them, including MS Word and PowerPoint if you paste the image into them)

MS Paint will crop

to Crop in MS Paint you have to

1) Click Select

2) mark the Selection with the Select tool

3) then click on the Crop tool

NOTE don't try to redo the selection when it is selected

Edit I did a Google and it says Paint for XP don't have a crop tool but the selection tool works

here are 2 links both look good
