GalCiv 2:ultimate Ed crash on start up

useing 64bit windows 7

I just purchased Galactic Civilizations 2: Ultimate Edition on Impulse and when I launch the game it opens the launcher with play game, manual, editors, ect. When I hit play game the screen flashes black a few times and windows pops up saying "Galactic Civilizations 2: twilight or the Arnor has stopped working." Ive tried pressing update but nothing happens and I cant find a patch anywhere on your site. I also tried reinstalling and still doesn't work, plus the debug.err is not there. I looked for it manually and I also searched through windows.

 

as I said earlyer im using 64bit windows 7, I have 8GB of ram, a 9800GT GFX card, and a 6 core AMD processor.

I have the same problem. I can load the original game by opening CalCiv2.exe in the GalCiv2Ultimate directory, but when going into the Twilight directory and trying to load the program I get the stopped working error as well. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice, and there is no debug.err. Any suggestions or solutions would be great, thanks.
