Star wars vs star trek

Is it possible to merge some of the Mods together to create star wars vs star trek? Use the federation from SOA and add them to the Requiem mod? There was a mod that did this for Empire at War FOC. For Sins this would be awesome, to see the Feds against the Empire. A true Sci-fi nerds wet dream. Btw I know nothing about Modding and what it would take to do this. Regards Theo

WRT "terrible terrible damage" to the SW name, while I personally haven't seen them, I don't think that it's necessarily the case. From an in-universe perspective, the SW cartoons that have been released that center on the Clone Wars era can pretty much be taken as Republic propoganda. Out-of-universe, they're cartoons that are far more likely to be oriented towards a much younger audience than previous SW titles (particularly the prequel movies, which got pretty dark at the end).

Though I've not heard of the "Tales of the Jedi" part, I personally don't care about what happens post NJO (hell, I don't even care about NJO; give me New Republic Nebula SDs plz), so I really don't know much about that.

@Zeta1127- WRT the Ancient warship, while not a mistake I would have made (more to do with my relative unfamiliarity with all things SG), I only knew because I've played both SG mods.

Well, I haven't played those mods, but I still should have known better.

I started paying a lot of attention when I realized the New Class Modernization Program and Nebula-class Star Destroyers were discarded like trash by those "people" at Del-Rey; when the galaxy was facing the greatest threat its ever known in the longest series of Star Wars books ever written, they are only implied by the source books to be involved!

I guess they can be taken as Republic propaganda, but they are still making the show change everything in sight and aren't officially treated as such. Ah, zigzag is referring to the Tales of the Jedi comics and other stuff that take place thousands of years before Yavin.

I have discussed my disdain for the "new" Star Wars here.

ah yes, you dont want those, try match case on so you only get TEC or TECH or Tech. You will still get off matches like you listed but it will show how many thousands of references there are to possibly change. Most you can leave as is but this will give an idea of what can be changed.

If all the reference files are not in the mod you may need to search the reference files and import needed files to your mod.

Look at the first file in my image

C:\Developer\Tools\Reference Files\SoaSE_Dip_1.2\GameInfo\AbilityDeployStarBaseTech.entity (5 hits)

this links from PlayerTec.entity and does not need to be changed but can be.

These link to the String\English.str and you may want to change to suit. 
Copy IDS_ABILITY_DEPLOYSTARBASETECH_NAME and search the String\English.str and see if it fits your race.
 
Line 41: smallHudIcon "HUDICON_ABILITY_DEPLOYSTARBASETECH"
This leads to the Window\.brushes and connects that icon. 
Use find in files HUDICON_ABILITY_DEPLOYSTARBASETECH to find the brush file which shows what texture sheet and where the icon is.
 
This should get you familiar with finding what links to what and how to do it. Open the Playertec entity and just go down finding stuff you want to change the use ind in files to find it.

And if a Jedi is in the Matrix, can he use the Force and when he tries, how does he know that he really is?

I think it would be a fun mod.  Would be nice to balance the ships close to their norms and discard the pseudo-science rationales the fanboys argue over.  They are fictional stories and the science in both is usually pretty darn weak.

Make the mod and they will come.

Myfisto, ok i think ive got that. I still don't know how you go from notepad++ and alter the files you want.

I typed in HUDICON which gave 802 hits.

I then double clicked on HUDICON-ship.brushes, the Brush manifest opened i was greeted with the following:

31.    brushFile "Race1_HUDIcon-Ship.brushes"

Where do i go from here?

The Race1 thing is Zombies Races Mod, its that directory i'm looking in.

I want to find the stock race TECH Battleship Mesh, replace it with another mods ship mesh and put it in my Mods mesh folder.

Then take the another mods corresponding ship textures, cl-dds, da-dds & nm.dds and put them in my Mods texture folder.

When i load the game, i should have Empire, Starfleet, Stargate and the 4th race's capital ship instead of the Tech ship.

This is what im trying to do.

WRT the Jedi in the Matrix bit, WTF does that have to do with the topic at hand? WRT the Borg reference, 200 gigaton transport-mounted turbolasers>Borg-wanking.

WRT to the mod itself, mod=WIN. Though I'll note that the science behind them isn't supposed to be all that "strong". In fact, I'd say that this is one of the areas ST is offensive; it tries to be scientifically plausible, and generally fails really damn hard. That's one the pros of SW, 99+% of the time, the characters never bother to explain just why or how something works, they just use it, and it works, because it's supposed to.

The PlayerTec.entity has a list of ship entity links. You can keep and change the ship.entity or copy the ship entity and rename it then change the playertec.entity to point to the new ship entity. The ship entity points to the mesh and shield mesh and icons and description and sounds and weapons.

You need to be more specific and search for the WHOLE brush name

To everyone who's interested. I've got the 4th & 6th Sci-fi races in now. 4th is Battlefleet Gothic and the 6th is Babylon 5. Meshes & textures, with some button & race pictures. Most of the string file corresponds aswell. Didnt think i could do it, until myfisto gave me the Entrenchment reference files. Nice one dude, id give you Karma if i knew how to do it. Going to work on shield meshes, hud icons, music and audio. At some point i will have to learn about particles, buffs & abilities. I will post some pictures next couple of days. I take requests if you would like to see your two favourite Sci-fi shows going against each other! It's happening right now! Lol. Btw am I ok posting screen shots of Battlefleet Gothic? Theo.

Mouse over the post you like and on the bottom left you will see a thumb up (karma) and report (spam, bad behavior). If its a long post you will need to scroll to the top of the post to the karma pop-up window.

Start trying to get permissions, I think this could be quite popular. For models you dont get permission for you might get modelers to join your team and make your own. Star Trek models have the creators mostly listed on the texture sheet for the model.

Give the mod and thread better name and post screens in the OP (original post). Edit original post with top right EDIT button.

The current way the mod is looking to set up, he couldn't release it. This is only because of restrictive IP regulation of GW and their 40K and WFB stuff. So, if he stripped out BFG from the mod, he could totally release, with the provisos of asset usage permission.

With BFG in it, then he couldn't release unless he was prepared to face some serious legal opposition. Better safe than sorry.

That said, if you're (Theo) going to release it, I suggest replacing BFG with EVE Online, as the EVE mod is shaping up nicely (lots of Amarr ships implemented in an unreleased build, fingers crossed for a release with said ships).

Lol, i meant Star Trek Defiant Vs Stargate Daedalus or something!

I will post some screens of BFG and then discountinue working on them.

The Races in so far are:

1.Empire

2.Starfleet

3.Stargate

4.---------?

5.Battlestar Galactica

6.Babylon 5

I could put in a mixture of Klingon/Romulan ships or Republic/alliance ships for Race 4? Ive had to mix the races up for Stargate and Babylon because of filling all the ship slots up.

Im thinking of replacing the pirates with either the ST Borg or B5 Shadows. I need a really Evil race in i think.

Myfisto what about "SCi-fi At War" as a simple idea, to pay homeage to the Mod for Empire at War FOC?

Right i need help choosing the 4th Race please. Anybody got any ideas?

Obviously, the race has to have the ships available i'm no Modder, i can't Model or texture in the slightest.

All these ships have been created by other more talented people.

My skill is i have a bit of time and the will to create something.

Any suggestions about the pirates?

What about Borg assimilated Shadows!

@Whiskey, how would Star Wars fair against that threat?

Eve does have some great ships and allow use. So does X3. Europeans are a lot less anal about IP. I can help with Eve ships as I have done a few already. X3 I have a tutorial but have yet to try it.
