Replace/Update/Obsolete ship edittor buttons

if I'm not playing correctly, feel free to correct me.

In GalcivII ToA, the ship edittor has an Update and an Obsolete button.  I really want a "Replace" button, which creates an updated version but automatically obsoletes the basis ship for the new design.

All of this gets back to having to navigate enormous lists of available crap designs that are no longer relevant to current technology.  I've also seen in the forum a suggestion for an obsolete check-box in the ship list.  There has to be a graceful way to say "just show me the best ships in their class".  It might be similar to having the "Newest/Old/All" tabs for building selection.

I hope Elemental is going to fix this - because it really detracts from gameplay having to manage lists so much.

Thanks.

The quickest way I've found is to upgrade a ship,  save it,  then delete the old ship design (make sure there are no ships in the process of being upgraded to the old design).  I keep clear of "user templates" and "core ships".

"Obselete" doesn't erase designs for me as well as "delete" - even then,  some designs still appear in later games under "user templates".  (I have "save designs to hard drive" disabled).
