Also, as a last resort, what if you made it possible to download the original version of the game from Impulse directly onto my own disk?  This could allow gamers to download the original game before the updates.  This would have several advantages, such as allowing gamers to revert to the original version of the game (for Mods, for example), allowing gamers to always have access to a physical copy, possibly allowing gamers to access Impulse on another computer to download their copy if they were without Internet access (my friend accessing his own copy on my computer, for example), and helping to prevent piracy of fully upgraded copies of the game (since the copy in question would be the original version).

Impulse Archive can do this for you. Has been around for a while.

Loved sins and the expansions, so I preordered.

I am not in a hurry to pay for a game that I can't play a final copy for 6+ months.  Other developers have beta tests where you arent duped into paying early for the priveledge. I am a fan don't get me wrong.  But this was game of the year in 2008 and you want me to pay 30+ for an expansion that I don't get to see now.  Just seems like the title is getting long in the tooth to be going all starcraft 2 on us.  (very expensive expansions)

Lets face it the average gamer spends way too much on hardware and software.  I just dropped 150 on a new case this weekend... a case.  These guys know that.  We know it.  It's a game.  They need to sell preorders way in advance to fund development.  I get it.  But 4th quarter and no teaser media.  Come on guys.  That's way too long for the instant gratification crowd and ya know what... if it's all that and a bag o chips, the extra ten bucks isn't gonna break me.  As it is now with COD Black Ops and Starcraft 2 I barely have time for other games.

I am not saying no just not right now.  If it was buy and download it now and play I would be on that like 100% organic unprocessed free-range Soylent Green.

Were you actually charged, or did the bank put the money on hold? Some banks will place a temporary hold on the money, even if you haven't been charged yet.

Do I have to have the previous expansion packs to be able to play Rebellion?

No, but you will get $10 off if you have both of them. The game itself will have all of there features but will not be required to have them.

pre-ordered the game today. I hope it comes out soon. My only complaint with the game series is that there should be a 64 bit version to stop the 2gb memory limit i can live with that though.

Apologies - I've updated the original post:

If you don't wish to be charged yet and haven't downloaded the bundle product (i.e., Entrenchment/Diplomacy), you may contact [email protected] to cancel your pre-order.

I think Multithreading would be better than a 64Bit Version but i dont think that anything like that is coming.

I dont reach the 2GB Limit on large Maps (200+ Planets) but i think all the AI Commands for managing all the Ships etc. slows down alot.

Neither is really possible at this point (64-bit or multithreading).

Bummer but thats ok, Im sure yall will fine tune the current engine even more. Have yall looked at the empire tree as a souce of low FPS/studdering/lag/slowness late game?

I love this game, and will almost definitely be buying Rebellion, but they won't be seeing a preorder from me until I get some concrete gameplay info (i.e. videos).

Allowing preorders before we've even seen the product seems a little daft.

The Empire Tree slows alot yeah but it doesnt bring me over 15 FPS in the Late Game so i think there are other Points to work on too.

IF I purchase this here, I get diplomacy as well?

The options listed are based on what you have registered with us. If you don't own Entrenchment or Diplomacy, you'll be provided with an option to buy those now in addition to Rebellion in case you want to get in on some more advanced action right away.

Not really the option to buy.  As a Sins + Entrenchment owner, it offers me to pay $40 for Diplomacy and Rebellion.  I don't particularly want Diplomacy at this point, with Rebellion on the horizon listed as a "standalone." But apparently I can buy it for $10 and then get $10 off Rebellion.  Unless I missed something where I could click through and just choose Rebellion?

If you don't own Diplomacy or Trinity, the price for Rebellion is $39.95.  Rebellion will include all the prior Sins content.

Can we expect any optimisations to counter late game lag at all? I had hoped to have at least the AI reexamined for speed gains and modability.

Don't care about the new factions or ships or any such things.  I want to be able to run a huge game silky smooth. If the engine has been optimized so that it is possible with a single thread and 2GB great.  Otherwise, I'm not buying until there is 64 bit and multithread.

If you have been following the beta, the 1.2 diplo patch will be a significant improvement over current lag (not including network related lag, which would be the user's fault, not the devs).  but... IT WILL NEVER BE 64BIT OR MULTITHREAD.  everyone wants it... but its never. going. to. happen.

Thank you Pbhead. The Devs have been extremely clear on this. Its not worth their time and effort at this moment. It would require a massive re-write and would never return on such an investment.

However, the recent 1.2 patch for Diplomacy has done wonders for lag. You will notice significant changes to the load times, FPS, and general smoothness of the entire game. It is a massive improvement. Not just a few seconds less in load times, but a serious upgrade.

Feel lucky that the game is still getting attention after all this time and that the devs are even producing another expansion.

I just do not understand why you can not make the game use 64 bit or multithreading...

The end game still lags for me, it doesn't go and kill itself like it used to do, but does Ironclad expect me to suck it up and be happy over the lag I get?
I've bought the product and I am unable to enjoy it to the fullest. And as far as I've read, they do not plan to make that happen either. And now they plan to give out an stand alone expansion pack that will add even more items to the gameplay, chugging up the pipeline even more without doing anything to improve the flow of things.

Will Rebellion turn SoaSE into a lagfest again? Or will Ironclad do some changes in order to avoid it?

This is why. Its going to take far too long and is far too much an investment in an aging engine. They wouldn't make enough money for them to do so. We are very lucky they are still paying attention to Sins at all, let alone a stand alone expansion.
