How do I get more powerfull ships?

I would like to know because there are some games where I cant build a battleship or a frigate but when I am playing agianst a human player the game immediantly says that he can build those ships. I would like to know what is wrong with the game becasue I can't for some reason build those ships even if I resarched everything on the tech tree.

 

Another problem is whenever I play one of the newer ailen races and when I am trying to merge ships together to crreate a fleet the fleet logistics icon goes away and that I cant add more ships to my fleet is this a glich?

To be able to build a ship you first need to go to the shipyard and design it.  There is an option somewhere to have the computer auto-design ships for you, but I forget where it is.  The auto-design ships aren't that great anyway.

 

I'm not sure exactly what you mean with your fleet issue.  I've never had trouble creating fleets.

Well what I mean is I see that ther is the option to build battleships but I can never build one in the game but I can build destroyers and stuff.

Try going to the ship design screen and see what hull sizes are available to you.

To me, the whole system of ship design is not very intuitive. The first time through is a no-brainer....design ships as you reach certain benchmarks on the tech tree. But on subsequent playthrough's with the same race, it's rather annoying to have to paw through the tech tree to see what will be available when.

Yes, I know that when you select a tech to research, the box on the upper right will tell you what that unlocks and what other techs you might need. But....I want to know what I need for a particular ship type that might be a bit further down the road without having to write everything down as you design it.

To put it more clearly...I hope...I would like to go to the shipyard and have every design I've made listed along with the required techs. That would save a lot of time instead of having to click through the research screen.

When you research the proper thing for your ship hull, like Battleship hull, you can then click on the "templates" tab and choose a hull of the ones available - in the construction interface. You may not be able to choose the Battleship otherwise, until you research more things like required weapon and shields. Don't wait for that, use templates, or design your own from scratch. If you wait, you will miss victory oppurtunities.

For me, I usually spy on other races using espionage. Then, I look at other races' ship designs and components, and copy off them to make me equally powerful.
