Diplomacy micro-expansion = a big mess?

I would like to take this opportunity to formally introduce myself, I my name is Zeta1127 (well not my real name but that isn't really important). I haven't been seen in multiplayer yet, but if I go there I will probably be Zeta Dragoenix Order or something like that.

As the title of the thread suggests, that is the impression I am getting, is this conclusion unfounded? As I understand it the changes to the pirates and the diplomacy system in Diplomacy don't work very well, is this true? Before someone asks, I don't have Diplomacy and/or Entrenchment just vanilla, which is exactly why I am asking these questions before I go buying them.

The problem with Advent was that for a long time they had a bugged ship. The Illuminator (the long range frigate) did almost triple the damage it said it did. The caused a lot of nerfing against Advent until this was discovered. Now the Advent is too weak.

Also the Terrans in SC2 have some very powerful and versatile early units (Marine Marauder Medic Shuttle) that allow for them to keep the other side off balance. If the Protoss or Zerg can clear this point, they have some nasty End Game moves. Vasari had a strong early unit (Their Capital Carrier and its Scramble Bomber ability) that allowed them to keep the other side off balance while they brought themselves up to End Game status where they have always reign supreme. This next patch coming up nerfs that early game.

In all honesty how you view Diplomacy as a mess or for the better, just depends on what you plan to get out of it.

 

Is its clear and straight forward as Entrechment. No.

Does it add some complex features. Yes.

Are the new features clear and straight forward. No.

Is Diplomacy in general clear and straight forward. No.

So is the Diplomacy expansion a big mess. Oh yeah.

A good big mess? Yes sir.

 

I hope that sums up my thoughts on it. I think Diplomacy brought to the table exactly what it intended. A wild crazy mess. I cant say I find any of the new features horrible. Ok well maybe Fastest settings. :P   I will say like all games, things could always use more polish. Even Entrenchment features still need some work. Im looking at you mines.

Am I the only one who feels this plays like the LRM/Garda/Hoshiko combo for TEC in Sins?  Same strength of coming out early and packing insane cost-effectiveness, same weakness of scaling poorly against late-game units and combos.  Also, I get a real "guardian" vibe from the sentry.

The TEC do remind me a lot of Terran in that respect.
