The ultimate explanation of why EWOM has been... less successful so far

The ultimate explanation of why EWOM has been... less successful so far

Everyone knows (and it was statistically proven), that every successful computer game must contain at least one of these:

  • Ninja
  • Pirate
  • Zombie
  • Robot

Best to combine them into a single unit for maximum effect:

How many of these are EWOM uses? I am not sure about zombies, but I have failed to meet a single Robot or Ninja so far. Unacceptable, please fix with the next patch!

I know its big one, but right on topic: (sorry if that's too big for some).

Not sure which is sadder.. the fact that activision thought they would get useful input from 4chan.. or 4chan users totally ignoring the chance to put their real issues out there. Either way it was rather humorous.

When most of the world is kids obsessed with Twilight and Vampire Diary and similar stuff it is hard to ignore it if you want to earn money in the entertainment business.

So you think that Twilight became so successfull because they simply copied?
I´d rather guess they became so successfull because they delivered something new (well, not new like in "nothing even remotely similar ever existed", more like in "a new mixture of known elements").
Vamp-Diaries seems to have been able to ride the shockwave that Twilight triggered but such things never last for long.

The best recipe for a huge success might be innovation.
Of course, clearing your own path involves much greater immediate risks, but at least in the long run it will possibly be more rewarding.

Twilight was a horrible movie however Vampaire Diaries are nothing like Twilight. First off it is a lot more violent (which is a plus for a Vampire story)

At first I too thought Vampire Diaries was just like Twilight but I was wrong.

Twilight ripped off Buffy and called it new. It is poorly written, but with the average intellect declining so rapidly it seems to fit the generation it was written for. I would guess the next popular book series will be a space western.

New movie coming out soon, Cowboys & Aliens starring Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig!

No joke, hopefully it is good but I also hope it doesn't start a book trend as you said.

Also agree about Twilight.

Actually, we already had the space western.  Forget the name of the movie.  it had a 'new sheriff' come to a mining facility based on a giant asteroid, or a small moon orbiting one of the gas giants.  Also, 'Firefly' has some episodes that are really 'westerns' on other planets.  Hey, the gangs ride horses, (except the boss- he gets a grav car, lol).  Western --> spaghetti western -->  space western.  They are already here.

Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha.... and no to the first.  Stephenie Myers was a hit because she delivered stock characters anyone and everyone could associate to in simple language.  Reading it was smashingly easy.... as long as you could hold down your lunch after she spluttered "OH MY GOD EDWARD IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOT" for the billionth time.

Innovation doesn't mean sales.  See Mirror's Edge.  Also, TS Eliott: "Mediocre writers borrow. Great writers steal."  Or Picasso (or Banksy): "The bad artists imitate, the great artists steal."  And lastly, who's remembered more:  Edison (or Westinghouse, even) or Tesla?

And actually Vamp. Diaries has been going strong since 1991.... so... I think it will survive Twilight.  See wiki for more.
