OOM error again - same game.
OOM error trying to manually save.
DX Error - Invalid Call
I loaded the saved game off a fresh start of Elemental. Zoomed out to the cloth map. Started to zoom in and whammo, error.
Here's the save:
Still get these OOM errors after an autosave. Some thing is still broken.
This is just one of a constant number of these cropping up at random.
The first OOM error happened during an autosave. The second and third are two examples of many OOM errors when trying to manually save.
Was in cartographer messing around with a map, went back to main menu, started new game, and whammo, CTD.
Same thing as above post - cartographer issue.
Wow - something is crazy wrong with the cartographer for me. It crashes every single time I exit it and try to start a new game.

ctd after autosave (1.19b). Game is lasting much longer before crashes - good job! I'm seeing quite a few 0 hit point monsters in battles (they are also in the debug file) in this patch.

Lots of OOMs on 1.19b here, too -- and this on a system with 6GB of RAM (Win7 Pro). Furthermore, the OOM appears to be tied to game progress, not just amount of time since launch. I got one OOM (with a CTD), relaunched EWOM, picked up a savegame, started playing, and CTD'd again with an OOM within about 20 minutes.
OK, this is just...pathetic. I loaded a auto-save from before my last OOM crash (yesterday). I got about 3-4 turns into it--and it crashed again.
This is a 1.19d oom ctd - my first since 1.19b. Occurred trying to manually save on season 158.
- Debug - http://pastebin.com/nU3PjE0x
- Succesful manual save from turn 157 - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19969679/Elemental/119d/157.EleSav
- Successful autosave between 157 and 158 - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19969679/Elemental/119d/AutoSave.EleSav
- I looked for a dmp zip and it either doesn't exist or I couldn't find it.
Another 1.19d oom ctd. Trying to manually save. Just finished a tactical combat, moved a unit or two on strategic map prior to save. Season 188.

1.19i OOM CTD on season 109. Medium map, as Clayton would say, no hanky panky. Normal course of business. CTD'd on manual save.

I haven't had a normal oom in awhile - this has been the exception for me recently and not the rule. Kudos on the improvements!
1.19j OOM on manual save season 111. Had just designed a new Fanboy unit and was building one in each settlement and moving the obsolete units to my front line. That all completed successfully but when I saved manually, kidney shot! It is ironic it happened around turn 111 and in 1.19i it happend at turn 109.

Thanks.
Is this a custom map size? The debug indicates it's a 16x16 map (256 sectors) which would be way beyond what the game supports.
Thanks, Frog.
Nope but I'll dig into it. I selected medium size map at game creation. I've never used the random map generator that Cephalo created and have only made one custom large map based off a vanilla template for AI testing purposes. It appears there are two areas of concern:
- How did I get something larger than medium?
- How did I get a custom map size?
I'll dig into later today and advise. I'll try to find the vanilla map name and provide as well.
Hi Frogboy,
Here is a screenshot of my last manual save game. Note the mouseover box indicates the map size is 8x6. As the screenshots below show, I'm playing on the vanilla medium map named Colazi. Not sure why the debug would indicate a custom larger size. Maybe you and the crew can look into why the debug is showing that?

I loaded up the game, used the CTRL-U cheat to see the entire map and took this shot. I'm Altar.

I then loaded up the cartographer to find the map. I found it as the medium map named Colazi. Here is the screenshot from the cartographer:

Very interesting.
Other questions I have would be:
1. Did you unhide FOW during the game?
2. Was there a lot of conquest occurring? Particularly between Kingdom and Empire?
3. Was there a lot of environmental changing (terrain changing)?
Thanks for your save games. Derek has asked me to take the lead on helping on this since I've recently gotten a bit more free time. ![]()
w00t! I was able to reproduce this with your saved game!

Friggin' awesome that you reproduced it! And you're welcome. Thanks for looking into it and responding.
I'm also overjoyed that you're back in the saddle again. Let's git 'er done!
- No - never unhid the FOW, only did that for the screenshots to determine the map name
- Not that I'm aware of. About 10 turns prior or so I had conquered Tarth but nothing out of the ordinary was going on that I could see (FOW was on).
- Nope, none. I used to terraform alot a couple of months ago but currently I enjoy leaving the maps the way that they are. I found that terraforming tends to make the maps bland. Something to consider here long-term for map enjoyment - once a forest is gone, it's gone. It's also why I don't cut down forests even though removing forest makes sense to reduce monster spawns. I'd rather keep the scenery around so the map is more colorful. Now if terraform could include things beyond raising or lowering land, such as adding forest, swamp, ice, etc. (along with some potential bonuses maybe to the settlements around them), I think it would add a huge amount of flavor to the game. But I digress...
P.S. - take a peek at Magnar AI if you get a moment. They could probably steamroll me at this point as they're packin' Warhammers and I'm packing Battleaxes with Leather Armor. If they leveraged their might and became more agressive I'd probably lose this game or at least lose some of my Kingdom...I do have a good bottleneck city to defend (and quickly leveling my Warfare tree) but I'm completely outclassed at this point of the game. Something to consider reviewing on the ridiculous level AI.
Thanks again!
I see what you're saying now. I looked in the debug and see the 16x16 tiles. Maybe this is a key win for all of us.
I've been living in your saved game. I appreciate the Frogboy. I don't know how CariElf would feel about things though. ![]()
Anyway, lots of interesting things here.
So, why do games crash during autosaves? The answer: memory fragmentation. Save games allocate 50M of memory to do their thing. At a certain point, with so many things being allocated and deallocated you eventually end up with the largest piece of memory being 20M even though there's nearly a gig free. So voila. Crash.
Now, hwo to fix it...
