failed to download data file

from Elemental Forums

I am getting a 'failed to download data file' error when I try to launch the new version (1.19)  

 

Have not had any errors like this before.  I have double checked the firewall and also uninstalled and reinstalled the game with the same result.  I've also been trying to launch from impulse, so I am logged in there and the internet is fine.  

Any help appreciated!

Double check you are really logged in.  I used shift-tab to bring up the Impulse screen from the game splash screen.  The already filled out login name was my email address which didn't work.  I replaced with my forum login, and it worked.

Thanks!  I did't realize I could access impulse from that screen.  My email on that particular area didn't get update, but it works fine now.

For anyone else having this problem, I was able to get past the error by simply pressing 'esc' on my keyboard. It bypasses the screen and you get to play the game.

I'm having this same problem. Hitting 'esc' gets me past the dragon splash screen but it won't let me log in to multiplayer. I've tried using my email address and my forum username to log on. I keep getting the following message:

 

"An error occurred trying to process your request"

It's strange, I'm logged into impulse, but the game says I'm not logged in.  I am starting from impulse.

 

All right, fixed it.  Shift-tab, used login, and changed my password.  I had changed my password since I bought elemental, I was logged into impulse using the new password but apparently you need to log into the game too.

have the same problem on my PC - will try the esc-button when I get home - should get fixed otherwise nevertheless, of course...

GL with that Stilgar.  For some reason those two areas of impulse arent sharing info... or some such..  I just tried an online game and it did work fine for me now.
