ObjectDock 2 Plus on Windows 7 freezes entire computer

I recently bogutht the OD2 plus after enjoying the free version, yet I was forced to stop using it after only a week of usage due to the PC oftenly freezing completely. I know this is OD since it started once I installed OD, and stopped once I stopped launching it at startup.

I am using Windows 7x64, and at the first few days the freezes were after the computer was in sleep mode or the screen went to sleep (inactivity). When I "awoke" the computer, it froze entirely but unfroze after 20 seconds. Yesterday, I exprienced random freezes which didn't unfroze by just working (lost some work due to that a few times).

Not only that, but OD caused me lots of other problems, like alt-tabbing me in middle of games (returning to them messes their view sometimes, which forces me to restart them). I am obviously not going to keep using that, but I feel a bit annoyed since I just bought it and I can't even work with it anymore.

If there are any solutions I'd like to hear about them please.

Thanik you.

I do not believe the free version supports x64.

My OD2+ doesn't freeze anything.

I think you should fire off an email to [email protected] and then wait for them to answer (not the automated response...a person). Include the url of this thread as well as a description of the problem and any screenshots you might have made.
Don't write again until a person answers because your ticket will get kicked to the end of the queue if you do.

If so many are having this problem, it should be forwarded to [email protected] .

Wait for an actual person to reply (not the autoreply) before writing again or your problem will be kicked to the end of the queue. Reference this thread and include all the other software you're running at the time, and your system information.

Seems to happen only with the plus version. My OD free gives me no problems all and I run Win7 x64.

I have this issue also running paid version OD 2 on Win 7 64 SP1.  Just emailed issue to support and referenced this thread.  Thank you.

This probably hasn't been noticed since it's not in a Support section.

Also unclear if any of the folks reporting the freeze/crash on 7x64 have 1) reported the problem to support and/or 2) had the problem solved.

Please, people: If you've gotten help from support re this issue, give us a follow up. Not a lot to ask.

I'm having the same issue.

I've been using ObjectDock Plus 2 for some time without any issue. However now when I start my computer the system hangs after a few minutes and I am forced to do a hard reset of the computer. I have stopped ObjectDock from startup automatically at windows startup and no issue, but as soon as I start ObjectDock Plus 2 manually the system hangs again. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both from Impulse and from Stardock MyAccounts with no resolution. The only common factor we all have on this page is Windows 7 64 bit. I have logged a report with Stardock Support and I'm awaiting a reply.

After using WindowBlinds since 1999 (ver.1!) and then other Stardock apps on machines running Windows 95 through XP, and I now want to put Object Desktop and ObjectDock Plus on my latest machine running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional. I am currently using WB7 and CursorFX, but now that the DeskScapes Dreams I coveted when I had WinXP will run on Windows 7, it's time to step it up. I'm going through the Stardock forums to learn about possible issues with Windows 7, and found this thread. The current ObjectDock version available for purchase is still 2.0, and none of the authors of the above posts mention their problems having been fixed. Does anyone know the current status of these issues?

Did the OP, or any of the subsequent posters turn to SD Support with the problem?

Did anyone get a solution?

Does anyone know the current status of these issues?
End of BBartCP's quote

 I've used OD1.90 Free on Vista/32  and Win7/64 as well as 1.90Plus and OD2.0Plus on Vista32 bit and Windows7 64bit.

I can only relate my observations, YMMV.

1.90 was smooth and reliable on all OS's, with only a rare crash or two. On 64 bit, it did take a bit longer to load.

2.0 on all OS's takes much, much longer to load. I didn't time it but let's say up to 2-4 times longer than 1.90.

2.0 crashed more often, "drags" when unhiding a tabbed dock and is sluggish in other operations. the back up your theme function is cumbersome, text Dock labels would often appear under the tabs or dock, and there are a lot of reports of trouble with the systray and running application/ peek features, which I didn't use, just search the forums. There were other things, but I stopped using ODPlus over a year ago and can't remember everything else.

My rig is an AMD Phenom Quad core 9850BE/4GB/8800GT Win7 Ultimate. Everything else SD runs like  a well oiled clock for me but OD Plus, for what it was needed for (fast, easy program access) was just not up to par with what I replaced it with.  I mostly use a DX theme  and Winstep Xtreme for  program launching.

I  have high hopes that ODPlus will get another major tune-up and I will start using it again. I still have some planned uses for it.

Until then,  Winstep Nexus runs rings around it performance and feature wise.

I may get knocked off the SD Christmas card list, but this is my honest opinion.

My advice is to try the free version of ObjectDock 2.0 for testing and evaluation.

I should add that to the best of my knowledge, neither version has ever caused my computers to freeze up, just a long delay in loading.

I now run OD2+ and experienced one crash only. No lag on start up. My only issue is that I have to check then uncheck tabs always on top because sometimes it stays on top of every window I open. Other than that no issues. Am running Win7 64 bit home premium
