It's merely a joke, right? It does NOTHING at all.

Windows XP Professional SP3
Installed Stardock programs: WindowBlinds 7.2 (build 95 x86), CursorFX 2.05 (free version)
_____________________________________________________________

First I downloaded LogonStudioXP_public.exe from the download.com link. I closed all running programs and installed it. I ran it and chose only the third logon screen that came with the package. When I clicked "save and apply" I was taken to my old XP logon screen, so I logged back in. I clicked OK and closed the program. I logged off and when I logged back on, there was my old logon screen. I restarted my PC and there was my old logon screen.

I uninstalled the program and went back to the Logon Studio web page. I downloaded the program from storage.stardock.com. I noticed that the second download was identical in size to the first download. I ran WinDiff on the two downloads and WinDiff said the files were identical.

Besides the fact that you get more useful documentation when you buy a pencil, i.e. none in the pencil's case, I've changed my mind about moving up to Object Desktop from Windowblinds because Logon Studio was DOA.

Attention all morons: don't tell me it works on your  PC. You obviously have no idea how useless that is for solving problems.

I don't know anything about LogonStudio, but I do know calling people morons isn't gonna get you anywhere.

Squarepegger - maybe computers are just your round hole?

Don't know if this matters or is helpful.

I looked at the install log and found this: Could not Self-Register: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock\ODZip.dll

I tried to register it manually (Start->Run->regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock\ODZip.dll") and got the following error dialog box:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock\ODZip.dll was loaded, but the DllRegistryServer entry point was not found.
This file can not be registered.

Also in the log were reports of some files that were not copied to my C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder, presumably because they were already there; a couple of ActiveX (OCX) files and a dll. I don't think it matters, but I'm mentioning it just the same.

I won't tell you it works on my pc, instead i'll tell you it works on other people's pc's though.

You obviously have no idea that calling people morons is useless when trying to get help with solving your problem.....

Squarepegger, you have mail.

While I understand how frustrated you probably are, you might profit more with honey than vinegar.... Just a thought.

People here usually try to help others. I think you could try to make them friends... and get them on your side. ;)

If no one can help (we aren't SD support), then fire off an email to [email protected]

and then wait for them to answer (not the automated response...a person). Include the url of this thread as well as a description of the problem and any screenshots you might have made.

Don't write again until a person answers because your ticket will get kicked to the end of the queue if you do.

Squarepegger -

If you haven't done so already then please email [email protected] and start a trouble ticket.  They will work with you to try and resolve this issue.  Support are working on a backlog of tickets from the holidays so be patient and they will get back to you.

Is the XP Pro 32bit or 64bit?  If it's 64-bit you may very well be out of luck but I can't guarantee it.

You might have more luck installing the thru Impulse.

"You obviously have no idea how useless that is for solving problems."
Squarepegger...it's actually VERY helpful as it clearly demonstrates that any fault is directly with YOUR system and/or its install.
Also, this may not be the specific issue but it is usually a fair bet that if a program install does not work with a 'specific' install [and it obviously does for others] then ANY error log is very likely actually relevant....eg the OCX and DLL files not copied.
They may have been 'locked' in use by another running program yet NEEDED to be replaced as yours were the 'wrong' version/s.
As others mentioned...email support if you're still encountering the problem.
BTW... the second program download may not actually be a second...but instead the first one [maybe corrupted] just recovered from your cache - twice.

When I was on XP, it wouldn't work if:

1. You only have one account and it's not pass protected

2. You're on a domain, which then it doesn't work at all

Then there's always the possibility of some OEM override, like the case with my friend's HP machine, have to change the permissions on some particular file.

I've never had any trouble with LogonXP in more than three years. Don't let this stop you from trying out the ObjectDesktop suite of programs; they're amazing. You can get trial versions (good for thirty days), then download some skins from the appropriate galleries, and see what you think.

Curious. How do you retrieve an sfc report. I did the sfc /scannow a few days ago and would like to know what files were fixed.
