Too late for a refund?

Basically I bought the game on release, was well disappointed with it, figured I'd give the patches time to sort it out but as is it's still IMO a pretty bad game.

It says as much that they're completely abandoning the mechanics for the stand-alone expansion, if they aren't doing that then I apologise but that's what the Journals seem to be leaning towards. It's fair enough that'll get the expansions for free as I bought on release but tbh my faith in Stardock has been terribly shaken. I don't see myself ever coming back to the game.

Don't mean to beat a dead horse but the game was talked up a lot and I expected a lot more from it.

So my question is this:- Is it too late to politely ask for a refund?

if you get a refund/return the original game you dont get the free expansions.

I honestly doubt it if you've had the game since release.

It's 30 days usually, so too late I believe.  Enjoy the free XP's though.

Refund because you disagree with the expansion pack thing?

White Room ---->

At least you are considering to ask for it politely, which is a very nice thing.

Full refund is typically if you can't get the game to function properly even with the help of Stardock support.

But you may be able to get the 75% refund if you don't like the game in its less buggy state.

Honestly, with the modability of the game and the fact that the expansion itself might be a superior game, and the strides that they've made in improving the game itself (Since this is the first game on a new game engine) I'd keep it just for the two expansions. Plus if someone comes out with a really awesome mod, you might keep it just for those.

But it's up to you. Someone else posted the email address already, and good luck whatever you choose. While the release itself was disappointing and the game mechanics aren't quite what I thought they'd be (I'm composing a list of advertised/dev blogged mechanics, how I interpreted them, and how they actually work in-tame for later posting) I have regained faith in Stardock for their efforts to fix the issues. The launch was trashed pretty well mostly due to bug issues, which have been addressed majorly. I still have CTD's but much less often. Now that the bugs are pretty well shot from 1.1, I'm excited to see if we have a well balanced rock/paper/scissors RPG/TBS game (Even if it's somewhat vanilla, it's a rare game type recently) by 1.15 or 1.2.

If the two expansions don't rest your concerns, you're out $50 (Or a little more if you're like me and bought the collectors) and you've learned a lesson. If they do, then you've got a decent game (Or three if the expansions are that radically different instead of just stand alone) or even just one game if just one of the expansions is good for you.

If you've not missed the money this far in, maybe give it a little more time. If you're like some on the forums and decide to rebuy later you'll be paying more for the game+expansions.

I'd only get a refund if you need the money. I've bought bad games for XBox 360 and PC several times, but I just considered it lesson learned. I remember the excitement of Neverwinter Nights 2, getting to the final battle, and having a game ending bug that got stuck in my autosaves. It killed me and I lost my desire to keep playing.

Or Mass Effect (360) and that long race down the corridor in the vehicle. Right after I spoke to the AI and started again (After about ten hours of strait playing without the autosave on) down the tunnel, the thing froze. I never finished ME. Though I did buy ME2 and play through it entirely.

It's up to you what you do. But that's my thought.

He would not have to buy Elemental war of magic at all. The expansion is its own game. Im thinking abour throwing in the towel and getting rid of the game to. I bought it at the end of december but it crashes and just not working for me.  I dont care if i get an expansion for free or not i know i will not throw anymore money intot he series. If i get a free Expansion ill try it out. I just wish they would not give up on the game and just make a new one.

You get Fallen Enchantress for free.  Are we seriously having a disagreement regarding semantics here? Seriously guys?

To be fair he said "Its fair that'll(that i'll?) get  the expansions but i have  lost faith in stardock" and just wanted a refund. I personally don't get the whole.. pre order and wait 6 months and decide after im done playing it to expect a refund but w.e

Now if he is expecting to return the original game and still get the expansions free he's totally tripping.

FFS...it's simply ridiculous to want a full refund 6 months after the game has been released knowing that you get the next one for free. I would like anyone to name one game company that would offer such an awesome incentive to keep customers, knowing that their original product wasn't up to par with what everyone expected. On top of it all War of Magic gets better and better with each patch. So the original game is getting there as well. In the end you could very well end up with two kick ass games for the price of one.

Don't forget that the game now has a new lead desinger, Derek Paxton(otherwise known as Kael, designer of the Fall from Heaven mod for Civ4) who came onto the team at the beggining of the year. We haven't really seen his influence into the game yet but im definiatly looking forward to it.

Please note that I demanded NOTHING. Also I would obviously not be eligible for the free expansions if I got a refund, how you guys read into it that I expected that is just...well...insane.

I'm just thinking with £30 or whatever it was, I could buy Civ 5 and actually own a game I'll play once a week at least.

The fact is Elemental was and IMO still is a total sham. Shoddy as hell gameplay, bad particle effects, batshit crazy AI that is half the time moron half the time capable.

Sure the expansions might improve it now they have some new people working on it but...meh...I still wish I didn't buy it. I guess I won't bother with the e-mail and just put it down to lesson learned, wait for reviews before buying Stardock again. Maybe the expansions can turn out a decent game...2 free chances for Stardock to win me back over.

Also Lord Xia...just lol, man. Lol. Tool.

Edit: Nevermind, not worth it.

Just shelve EWOM for now and think of it like a pre-order for the new incarnation EFE. It might seem like a long wait, but I'm sure if you just got a 75% refund now you would end up regretting it later on.

Wait a period of time and then ask for a refund because you don't like the gameplay .... good luck with that.

Still I would give them an email, at worst they can say no.
