I just must not understand all of this.  If it says,  'Users can also painlessly rip DVD (including encrypted DVD)......', is that okay to do?  I thought DVDs were encrypted to protect from folks violating copyright.  :S

Like I said, I'm not up on all of this.

For personal use, I believe that's ok.

Also, Philly like most things, just because you can doesn't mean you have to.

If you buy a DVD and want to copy it to protect the original or to watch it at a friend's house and not lose the original, I don't see any harm.

If you copy it and then sell it or distribute it, that's NOT OK.

Does this WinXDVD allow youtube downloading?  If not which one would?

On my old laptop, W-XP, I had the free version of Realplayer installed, and with that, I was able to download vids from youtube....I had a huge collection of songs in that realplayer library.

But since I was honored with a hardware failure, I had no choice but to purchase a new laptop with W-7-64bit.  However, that Realplayer program, for some reason, gets rejected by my new OS or NIS2010.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can use now?

Depends where you are in the world. Everyone should find out what are their legal requirements first before using this software.

Down here it's ok if you have the original DVD and it's for your own use at home. I don't think you can take it to someone's house, because it becomes public viewing.

There is also an issue of sale of software which can break encrypted protection. But every country have different copyright laws, you need to find out.

I believe their file format is FLV. If so, the answer is "no". You can find more info HERE

The Free Giveaway of the Day website frequently has software which supports FLV format. I recommend you visit daily to see what's being offered.

As an update, I freakin' love this program.  It's easy and it's incredibly fast.  I'll be backing up my library with this.  Thanks for the heads up doc!

On a related note, a program called Freemake will convert most video filetypes to another filetype.  For instance, I have a bunch of .mkv files that I wanted to convert to .avi.  I searched around and found Freemake.  This was before getting WinX DVD, which I assume would do it as well.  In case someone didn't get in on the offer.

I've cue'd up as many as 6 videos at once and it chugs through them one at a time.  You can also string them together if you want.  Handy for those cut-up youtube videos.
