A slow boat to China will still get you there a LOT faster than walking.

 

Why is shipping so slow?

 

I figured I'd give building a navy a try. When I built my first ship I was amazed at how slowly it moved. Unless you are on an island, why would you even bother?

 

Shouldn't ships travel faster than your basic foot soldier? A good bit faster even than foot travel on roads? Shipping travels 24/7 but foot/mounted travel requires stopping to eat, sleep and maintain your mounts.

You would think.  There really isn't a good reason to build a ship, other than to use as scouts I guess.  The water is pretty safe, no monsters or anything.  But pretty much useless.

Transports grant access to enemy terrain otherwise inaccessible but to those Armies capable of direct assaults.

I do agee though, let's assume the wind always blows at 10 knots, not .5 knots. ;)

Why is shipping so slow?
Because China is very far away and the pacing to reach it must be the correct.

 

So... people actually bothers with ships and non continental maps? O_o

People would like to bother with it, I like islands and ship battles and sea monsters and big boobs.  I know big boobs had nothing to do with the rest, but I really, really like them.

I tried navies ONCE.  Currently, unless playing on a game of islands, its almost pointless.  I learn the raise and lower land spells, and creat land paths to where I need to go if water is in the way.   caravans don't swim, either...
