Can anyone give me a list of helpful hotkeys to use while playing? I'm terribly slow at getting started and doing stuff. It may just be because I'm unsure of what to build, but I feel if I have hotkeys, I could be a bit faster.
Caps look to zoom in and out (doesn't zoom to cursor, unfortunately), and otherwise control groups.
I'd love it if the game had a hotkey to swap targeting behavior (gravity well, local area, hold ground), but alas you need to access this critical function from an obscure sub-menu...
So that's the only good one? Lol
Pretty much yeah; you don't need to be overly quick in this game, and precision counts for a lot more.
And here I thought you had to be the rootenist-tootenist fastest space cowboy out there. That helps, thanks 
Using the Empire Tree well really reduces a lot of the need for hotkey memorization that other RTS games have. Though you may want to go through the list of possible hotkeys and see if any look useful to you, and possibly change them if you prefer a different setup.
To use internet connection as an analogy, bandwidth is far more important than delay. It's more important to ensure you get everything done effectively rather than getting individual tasks done quickly.
