What Should the Krynn Say

Suggestions for Krynniac Conversation

Hello, everyone! I noticed that the Krynn hardly have anything unique to say in the conversation file, and I'm trying to give them more to say. However, I'm having a hard time getting into the mindset of this race to think of something to say. Outside of their backstory, all I have to go on is their opening greeting: "Keep your greed in check [YourLeaderName], and you'll find there is room for both of our races to prosper." This suggests that they would take particular offense at the Korx, but I'm not sure how best to express it.

So, I'm opening the floor to see what everyone on the forums can offer. I can be things the Krynn say, or things other races say to the Krynn (for example, taking offense at their influence starbases). I'm interested in seeing what the GalCiv community has to offer on this.

I've been thinking about it for a while, and I had a small idea. Since the Krynn is made up of a plurality of races, it made sense to me that the Krynn leader would speak using the royal we.

I've also finally come up with a few suggestions, although please feel free to contribute your own.

AI_BLACKMAIL_REJECT_TOO_SOON

"Does your greed know no bounds? We will not continue to feed your avarice!"

DECLARE_WAR_ON_PLAYER

To all races: "If you are not willing to join The Way willingly, [YourLeaderName], we will convert you by force. Prepare for war!"

To the Yor: "You machines have proven inconvertible. If we can't convert you, then we have no choice but to destroy you."

To the Korx: "It is time that you pay for your greed, [TheirLeaderName]. Join The Way, or die!

I think you may be overemphasizing that bit with the greed... it seems like the Krynn are simply arguing against materialism. Although that still means they'd have it in for the Korx.

As far as specific dialogue with other races, I would imagine that the Krynn would have special things to say to the various races with a Precursor connection - the Altarians, Iconians, Korath, and possibly Yor. Their creation myth is clearly the Precursor history of the universe (from one of the Iconian techs) interpreted in an explicitly religious way. While it isn't (yet) clear how they know this - I'd be rather interested to learn the origins of the Way - I can see the Krynn having a lot of interest in the Precursors and those who knew them.

Other ideas to follow. The Krynn always interested me, seeing as how they've been all but absent from the campaigns yet have a detailed backstory, unlike the Korx, who were in a similiar position in the DL campaign yet had no real background besides "generic merchant race". I have a feeling that the storyline in GalCiv 3 may be going somewhere with the Krynn, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Maybe I did overemphasize. I was grasping as straws, I guess. But I still think the overall idea is sound, I just need to tone it down a bit.

I never thought about the Precursor connection much, but now that you brought it up, I like it. I still need to find a way to make it fit, and what exactly they might say, but it's a start. Thanks for the idea!

I, too, am interested to see how they'll fit in with later installments. In the Twilight campaign, they were just sort of there, silently expanding their empire amidst the chaos. I did notice, though, that in the last mission the Krynn have all the Terror Star techs. This might be a mistake (they were supposed to belong to the humans), or done for purely game play reasons, but I still find it interesting.

That all said, I have a few more. I may have overemphasized their references to the way in the same way I overemphasized their references to greed, but I'm leaving it in for now.

I have more! This time, things being said TO the Krynn.

AI_COMPLAINS_INFLUENCEBASE

Most Races to Krynn:

Good: We are normally all for religious tolerance, but the missionaries coming from [StarbaseName] are starting to worry us. We ask that you not build any more of your starbases in our territory.

Neutral: I've noticed an Influx of missionaries on our worlds coming from your starbase in sector [X], [Y]. They have become a nuisance to our people, and I have to ask that you stop sending your missionaries to our worlds.

Evil: #Don't think we haven't noticed your attempts to "convert" us, [OTHER_RACE_LEADER]. Your starbase in sector [X], [Y] have sent droves of missionaries to our worlds, and we are sick of them and their meddling ways. Destroy your outpost, or we will take it from you.

Drengin and Korath to Krynn

Evil: I'm not one to normally complain when our future slavelings willingly... visit... our worlds, but the missionaries you keep insisting on sending from [StarbaseName] have proven to be more trouble then they are worth as... workers. The other day, one of them had the gall to come right up to my own front door! The point is; stop bothering us, or we will cut off the irritation from the source - YOU!

Yor to Krynn

Our worlds have been recently flooded with your missionaries, which we calculate have come from [StarbaseName]. Listen to me very carefully, fleshling; we have no use for your mystical superstition. Now stop with your futile attempts to convert us and leave our worlds alone.

I can only hope that Gal Civ III turns out to be a totally different galaxy with a story line all it's own.  If one is simply going to continue the current one, then simply make a new expansion...

As for the Krynn, I have yet to play them; but I think I'll give them some thought.

I am in the process of teaching myself C++ and one of my major goals is to convert an old Basic program I once modified called "Eliza" and/or "Dr. Z".

I was running a BBS at the time and had some guests over.  I introduced them to my computer and let them talk to the person on the other end.  The thing is, it was a standalone computer and there wasn't anyone on the other end; just the Eliza program.  They didn't believe it when I told them they had been having a converstaion with the computer for the last half hour.

I hope to recreate that using C++ utilizing the various races from Gal Civ II as the person(s) on the other end.  Then I'll be able to show you some real diplomacy!
