[TA] Alignment Technologies

Hi guys, I just completed my second game as Evil Yor and I was curious as to which factions get the good, neutral and evil technologies. I'm asking because WHen I was good Kryn, I got no unique techs unlocked (I did get innate bonuses of being good).

 

Also The evil technologies (the psonic weapons) appear to be pointless. In many cases the choice of black hole gun or pisonic gun, which really wasn't a choice, the black hole gun does more damage.

 

The malice tech did provide a few nice super projects. The mind control center would have been very nice when i was doing a cultural victory as krynn. Also the free invasion cost super project was very nice. What are the unique super projects for the good and neutral alignment.

That's not a fair comparison; the psionic weapons are far earlier on the research tree than the black hole gun.

I just reviewed my last game as Yor. The psionic weapons occured 3-5 techs earlier than the most damaging weapon of each category. It took me 20 turns to bridge the gap between a psonic weapon and the end game weapon. The psionic weapon of course took about 3-4 turns to research and provides about a 33-50% damage bonus over the equivocal tech weapon (What you would use if you didn't have psionic).

 

With that said, I do realize that a direct comparison of a "Black Hole Gun" to a "Psonic Blaster" is foolish. However If I did not research said "Psionic Blaster" I would have had the Black Hole Gun 3-4 turns sooner.

 

Do the defensive technologies for being "Good" work in the same maner as the psonic weapons? Where the "Good" armor is a few steps up from the equivocal armor of that tech level.

Good defences are not bad compared to the tech that is around at the time, but they can become obsolete fairly quickly.  Telepathic Defence in particular, since it's the only bonus component on the point defence branch.

To really get some mileage out of them you need to be playing with the tech speed on slow or very slow.

Altarians and Drath get unique Good technologies.  The Drath may only get one, but the Altarians get a bunch.  The Thalans get a bunch of alignment techs no matter which one they choose.  They do not, however, get Good and Evil or the Concepts of [YOURALIGNMENTHERE] techs.

Um . . . off hand I think those are the only races that get extra techs based on alignment.  Don't take that as absolute, though.

The weapons techs have their own issues.  I took out the top tier weapons in my TechTree Fix mod.  That way, the evil races get a real bonus by being able to get the psionic weapons.  Fixing the overall balance of weapons and defenses is something left for v2.

It is possible for a weapon component to have two tech pre-requisites.  At least I think so.  So you could make a more powerful end-game weapon that is only unlocked if you have both the top weapon tech and the corresponding psyonic tech.
