[TA] Yor Start.

I'm having some difficulty economically with the Yor. They don't appear to have an econ boosting building (the markets I was so fond of in DL). How do Yor players get past this deficit?

I've tried spamming the farm things (they call it something else. Also boosts morale :)). but my tax income was still pitiful. Any advice will be appreciated.

I've played a few games as the Yor and as a custom race using the Yor tech tree.  Lack of econ buildings is a perpetual complaint - and a valid one - but I like it overall. Let's see . . .

First, I'm sure somebody will pop in to say "just trade someone for the econ techs", so let's get that out of the way.  If you really want to become an economic juggernaut, there's nothing the Yor can do to beat a few planets full of Galactic Stock Exchanges.  If you're a purist or just need to get by until you can trade up, there are a few things you can do.

To start, boost your econ and morale abilities with your bonus points.  Higher econ means more money and higher morale means higher taxes which means, of course, more money.  You could also boost population growth, which will expand your tax base more quickly.  If you boost research, you'll be able to get the Yor econ boosting techs  more quickly.

For political, there's the Federalists for the 20% econ or the Technologists for the 20% research.  If you go 20% bonus research plus Technologists, you'll get +40% research and a fast track to better economy.

About that technology, the Yor have a unique group of techs for boosting economy, called Efficiency Studies.  Each tech level grants a global econ bonus (5%,10%,10%,10%,10%) Get your research machine running and plow through a couple levels to bolster the economy.  There's also the techs that boost population growth, and you know about the charging stalks for higher morale and population.

Last thing that comes to mind off hand is the Efficiency Center, a one per planet building that gives a 25% econ bonus.  The technology prereq is Efficiency Studies 3. Sure, you can't spam it like the stock exchange, but I'll build one on each planet until I don't need them anymore - say I trade for the stock exchanges.

Having said all this, I'll add that even these measures don't make me an economic giant.  They do, however, allow me to afford my expansion and generate a decent surplus until I can get the techs I need to  make some economic planets.

Hope this helps a bit.

PS - I just remembered the Recruiting Center.  Research Space Militarization, or the equivalent Yor tech, and put one on every planet for +10% econ and +20% population growth.  These are the engine of your growth, and I make Space Mil a priority tech early on just for that reason.

You'llhave to totally alter your playstyle, esp. if you're used to play the Yor in DL. In TA, they are one of the strangest civs out there, very hard to master, and, in th elong run can be very weak if you can't compensate for their weaknesses. However, they have aome pretty tough advantages in their techtree and racial. Use this well.

P.S.

In TA, I would take the Yor always when playing a warfighting game, as I think they are the strongest race there. However, it does *HEAVILY* depend on the game setup - tech speed, SA changed or not, galaxy size, planet count and tech tradign enabled or not. Thus, handing tips out now without inquiring first you game wouldn't lead to best results, so just a few guidelines.

- Try to colonize as much planets as you can get. However, don't fully outbuilt them. You'll need to keep your base building cost as low as you stay it. Don't concentrate on ships first, but on planets and techs. Try max your pop and soldiering, leave space superiority to others. Fight battles in a hit'n'run fashion. Try to get as much diplomatic bonuses from the other civs as you can get. Keep close watch to your neighbors, they will oftentimes declare war on you unexpectidly. Don't upgrade your factories until very late in the game. the first tier factory is the most efficient int he whole game. try to built all one-per-planet buildings, later override (if not enough space) the moral building with the tier 3 farm.

So i started my second game as Yor (Had to throw in the towel in the first game).

Habital: Abudant

Planets: Common

Size: Huge

Normal Tech

Pretty much the middle for everything but frequent randoms (I find them to be halarious, even when they happen to me. Drengin president got assasinated breaking the Terrain Dregin alliance.)

Anyway, I read the "Index of Tricks" thread and holy crap, there were a lot of good ideas. I got 5 minor factions to give me their treaties as well as 3 of the major factions (I still have mine to give out lol).

My positive income is because of the economic treaties (about 700 BC). I did lots of tech trading to get atleast market centers to overcome our economic problems. I have to say with tech trading, the Yor really don't have to play much different than the others. In fact, I dare say our economy can decimate others because we get that unique Econ line + the traded stock exchanges etc.

I'm not sure if its common to float several econ bases around production worlds. I have 3 bases each effecting 4-5 planets (including the manufacturing capital). I think its helping (I applied 2-3 of the +manufacturing/research modules).

Anyway, Thanks again Maiden666 and Tolmekian. My military rating is still struggling (7/9, i vomit out 2 missile 1 shield boats every 2 turns, year 3 or so; everyone are still in paddle boats). However, I think I can win (I just conquered the Torian homeworlds. You really have to stop those frogs fast or they are EVERYWHERE.
