Freighter of another race prevents my military from protecting my military starbase.

I had a trade route using the military starbase I had built instead of using the nearby economic starbase.  When I tried to move my military fleet on the military starbase position in order to defend it from an approaching fleet, I was given the message that if I attack the freighter, it will be a war declaration on the race that owns this freighter.

I answered No to the declaration of war and my ship didn't move on the starbase space.  I don't see why my military can't occupy the same space as that freighter as other ships sometimes stack there.  After the No answer it should just move on the space and not attack the freighter.

Along a similar line, I tried to get 2 of my fleets to join today.  There was a freighter occupying the same space as one of my fleet.  Again I was warned about attacking the freighter.  When I clicked "no" on the choice to attack it, my advancing fleet stayed where it was instead of moving on the space without attacking the freighter.

Move your ship around (one parsec distance) the starbase until it has 1 move remaining.  Then order a move which takes it across the starbase;  it can only move 1 parsec and will stay on the starbase this turn.  Cancel its orders to make it remain there next turn.

[EDIT:] sorry,  I think it still avoid freighters,  but I have used this technique sometime,  I forget what for.

It makes sense to not let you move on another player's space except if you can't move on the same space why can you move on a starbase, But in civilization 4 and freeciv they do let multiple players share the same space, either way I don't care. Civilization is a similar game to galactic civilizations. Play style
