A snappy salute to our veterans
On another site that I frequent I had noted that I'd be making a donation to Fisher House (see http://www.fisherhouse.org/fisherhouse.html for more information about Fisher House if you are not familiar with them) and just a few minutes ago I hit the submit button to do just that.
As I'm sitting here with the NFL network on in the background and saw the scroll at the bottom of the screen mentioning USO (http://www.uso.org), I also sent off a donation to that organization.
Both of these organizations are, at least in my opinion, solid organizations that offer a lot of support for our veterans. As I also said elsewhere, I really wish there was no need for an organization like Fisher House, but there is such a need and I'm really glad that such an organization is there to help the service members and the families that need the support they provide.
In the case of the USO, it's an organization with a long, long history. I remember them from my youth, watching Bob Hope specials on TV, and seeing clips from when the USO would tour and help provide comfort and support for service members that were deployed overseas.
This season I was heartened to see several businesses making offers to our veterans. Golden Corral, Applebees and others that are offering benefits of some sort or another to veterans. Those organizations should have our thanks for stepping up for our vets. If you happen to be in one of the businesses that is offering these benefits and you see vets around you, please give them a smile and perhaps tell them thanks for their service. I'm fairly certain they'd appreciate the acknowledgement. ![]()
