MyColors Admin Rights Problem

Here's the deal...

I just got my alienware M15x with windows 7 and it was working wonderfully. Including MyColors...

I messed something up and had to perform a recovery on my machine back to factory shipped settings and everything seemed to be ok after that but now when I try to run MyColors with UAC on it works just fine, I just get the annoying UAC alert.

The problem is if I turn UAC to its lowest setting and restart my PC I get an error message:

"MyColors requires Admin rights to run.  Please Grant this user account Admin privileges and then attempt to run MyColors again."

My user account is already an Admin account

And if I turn UAC back on and restart the PC Mycolors runs, I just get the annoying UAC permission request...

Before the recovery MyColors worked with UAC off. I can't figure out what could be causing this.

I've already tried right clicking on MyColors and selecting run as Administraitor and going into the properties and checking the box marked "Run this program as Administraitor

Any Suggestions?

Did you turn UAC COMPLETELY off? There are some tweaking programs that allow you to do this and I have never gotten any kind of popup again.

Drewish, do you have any other stardock applications appart from Mycolors? AFAIK it cause problems if you installed mycolors before windowblinds. Also if you request the serial numbers you can then get access to a zip file containing the individual parts of the suite eg wb, ip etc for you to then apply with the other stardock software

Try setting it to run in Compatibility Mode/Vista SP2

Actually, Windows will let you do it.

Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts

Choose Change User Account Control settings

Move the slider to the bottom. Done.

That is odd considering UAC is off on my rig and MyColors works fine. Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Yeah everything came pre installed on my machine and worked without a hitch until I recovered to factory settings

I couldn't figure it out. But I found a Registry hack that fixed the problem.

RedneckDude

That's what was causing the problem

If I turned UAC all the way down I would get that error message

And then if I moved the bar up one level MyColors would run but I would get the UAC message

I eventually just went into the registry and changed the value from 0 to 1...

This turns UAC back on but the UAC interface is still set to minimum so I don't get the UAC popups

Thanks for the help!

In Windows 7 If you right click on a icon for a program then choose Properties  then click on the Compatibility tab at the bottom there is a check box at the bottom that Says "Run this Program as a administrator"

There is also a button that allows you to set the rights for all users.
