Creature Creator

It would be nice if we had a feature to make our own animals and other monsters to roam the world of Elemental. I am sure this would be easy to impliment due to the fact that all the critter parts have to be located in the game somewhere, its just a matter of getting access to them. :)

(I am assuming it would be in similar format to the tile builder.)

Your thoughts?

I am sure this would be easy to impliment due to the fact that all the critter parts have to be located in the game somewhere, its just a matter of getting access to them.

The problem is that there are several critter "parts": the mesh, the skeleton, the animations, and the skins. These parts cannot generally be swapped and recombined to create new creatures.

Right now it is possible to modify the skins of animals and objects, since these are image files that are easily edited. Now, if there was a way to edit the other parts, it would be a boon for modders.

Well there is always blender although you do need some skill, unlike spore creatures are generally not made out of parts in Elemental, they consist as has been said of a mesh, skeleton, texture map and animations, this is the same in almost all 3D games.

They could create some parts for a creature editor on the same basis as the unit editor but with parts that look like creature parts instead of armour and weapons of course but I don't think it's currently planned.

I'd much rather they just worked on more monsters/mounts/units to be honest.

A creature creator is a huge undertaking (hell, it was practically half of spore) and I don't really see this ever being implemented in a game after release.

That would be so great and is something I would appreciate very much! It should be on everyones wishlist for the first addon.

There could be a tech that activates hirelings or mercenaries in pubs!

I doubt they would ever try to implement something as complex as spore. What they could do is a couple of basic body types e.g. Quadriped, biped, etc and allow you to add parts (instead of armour (you just need to place attachment points. Essentially they already did this with the unit creator accept that their is only one basic skeleton type and animation set.

It would take some work and wouldn't give spores level of control but a creature creator is not impossible. However I agree it's far from a priority.
