10,000 downloads and...............

NO COMMENTS! That's what I found when I went to comment on "Magnum", a window blinds skin by Aleksyandr. I can't believe that so many people would d/load a skin and not even say thank you to the author. So come on you people, reward these artists for their hard work by at least saying thanks for the great skin. You don't have to eulogise over them, just a simple "thanks" would do.

By the way, my uploads STILL don't appear in "Newest Additions", and I STILL don't know why.

Well I have 8,321 downloads on my Solace in Blue skin and the only three comments ledt came from people I already know! That means only .036 percent of downloaders took the time to comment.

Geez, when I like something, I make sure I take the time whether I download it or not.

Course I remember this debate from another "ex"-site.

...it is a shame!

I can't comment on everything, but I make sure that I take at least 30 mins each day to go through the wp section and try to make constructive comments (seeing as the wp section is where I mainly upload too ).

hmmm....it's a shame that more ppl don't comment I think, I know how good it feels to get a comment, even just a thank you makes all the hard work worth it!

Human nature, I'm afraid...

"Oh, you're giving it away? Must not have taken much to do then, hardly worth a thank you", in some people's minds.

The hard work is transparent to the average user.

Example: You get a drink from a water cooler and use the paper cup. It rarely crosses your mind that there's a water filtration company bottling that for you, and a bottle producer, and a dispenser company that makes the water cooler itself, plus a paper mill making cups, and 3 or 4 truck drivers hauling goods just to make that free drink possible for you.

Comments are nice, but there's 10,000 people out there who've had an artist touch their lives in some interesting way. That makes a pretty powerful statement without a single comment being typed.

Damn it Russ! Who asked you to make sense anyway? :-o

Russ makes a good point... However, these other people usually get paid for their work. Sure, most of us do what we do for love (or whatever you'd like to call it) but...

I still say it wouldn't hurt to hear what we should already know.

Pride... that too is human nature.

"thank you, masked man"

Yes, it's sad. And to add to the sadness, it has 7 ratings. I serioulsy think raters should have the decency to comment as well.

Actually, I think commenting shold be part of submitting a rating. It should be compulsary.

As it is now, I am sad to see that I was right and that ratings are becoming "lazy feedback". It's much quicker to pick a number than to scribble down a few constructive comments.

10,000 and a few comments???
Then check out Russ's Liquid 2 for WB!! 102,000+ downloads and not a single comment!

Russ makes good sense.....again
Personaly speaking I love getting comments on my work, no matter if it's just a simple thankyou. I don't care too much about how many downloads I get. I'd be happy if I got 20 downloads and each downloader left a comment, think about it...that's not a lot of downloads, but it's a hell of a lot of comments!!

But 10,000 downloads and not one single comment??? wow!

Oh and listen to Paxx....a comment with the rating should be compulsary.

I think 102000 downloads is comment enough -
Reply #12 Top
I personally don't think it is. One comment is worth 1000 downloads as far as I'm concerned.

As I said... human nature involves pride and, as Paxx said, hearing it from someone else is worth a lot more than figuring it out on your own.

I have grown to notice and accept that people around here don't comment nor seem to expect comments like they do at devart.
Maybe it's me or a lame ass assumption but that is what I see.
I respect everyone and their work but I did notice I lack commenting around here myself.

Comment? Why? These things are free to use aren't they? Free to use the images as I see fit, free to modify and upload elsewhere? Why should I comment? If I should comment, make me comment! Ofcourse, if it's utter crap, I'll comment, then I'll say "it sucks!". By the way, check out my new 1337 XP skin. Made it all myself!

(That was my evil twin speaking, but he has a point. The only reason people give comments is when they understand the effort involved to create a skin and don't take it for granted)

it can also be tough to give a 'really useful' comment.. if it's advice on how to improve something, some may be afraid the author might see it as 'i would've liked it if'

many of the people here are into leaving more than just the 'hey, cool man' remark, so i think sometimes comments end up never getting typed out. misunderstandings are easy in this format, and emotions can run high. the key is to always be positively receptive of advice & criticisms ourselves. :]

"someday you'll be a really useful comment, thomas"

Comments can also cause a fierce debate over a submission After all people some times end up arguing over the damned skin..[just recativated this thread too ]

It's a well known fact that comments take extra effort. Downloading is a simply mouse click or two. Comments require typing and some measure of thought.

Therefore, they are viewed by many of us as "bonus points" regardless of thier content.

..I don't think in all cases I have seen that to be completely true. For some people posting a comment can inclued 'Yea right' or some other three worded simplistic reply which doesn't help the Skin or the Thread in Question. People doing this are not really contributing to the Comments/Topic/Thread, but merely never had anything contructive to say in the first place. OK they may agree with another comment and that, but taking the time to think about what your going to add to a post, is not some thing every one takes the time to do. Perhaps this will change with the announcement Frogboy just made
