Licensed to roll...
Today was licensing day for the puppy. The county of residence for my daughter and I requires licensing of dogs and cats after they reach 4 months old. Officially it's supposed to happen within 10 days of that 4 month birthday, or I suppose within some reasonable period after you move an animal into the county (assuming the animal is over 4 months old). In any case, since I try to follow the laws and requirements that are imposed upon me, and want my daughter to do the same, today was the day to go get the dog its license. We had gotten the required rabies shots just a few weeks ago so really there weren't any concerns about the license other than finding the proper facility and paying the relatively small fee that is required. We could have saved about $10 in licensing costs if we'd gotten the puppy spayed already but that wasn't scheduled to happen until the end of the month. The clerk at the licensing facility tried to let me have a temporary pass on the licensing requirement until after the pup had been altered, but the difference in cost was so relatively low that it didn't make sense not to go ahead and get the license now. Next year, at renewal time, we'll get the added discount. Yay.
While at the facility I took a walk through the viewing area where stray animals and others that are available for adoption were held. I must admit to being tugged at a bit by the kittens in the feline area. There were a few dogs that looked like they might make good pets too, though I don't think I'd really have wanted any of the ones that were readily available for adoption. (I'm not quite sure why some of the animals were listed with a different status, but only some of the animals were ready for adoption while others were being kept in some sort of protective status.) While I don't want to take attention from the pom puppy, I am still very tempted to add a kitten to the household, or perhaps an older house cat if there were one that needed to be adopted (assuming it was friendly to other animals and people). I'll probably hold off on any additional animals in the home until next summer, and even then may go longer as I don't want to add pets and then run off and leave them around the house are in some boarding environment as I take any trips during the summer months.
No, I don't have my vacations planned that far out. Just trying to be realistic. I have some time away planned for the new year (early spring time frame), but beyond that I'm hoping for a few long weekends or something similar and no big vacations. We (my kids and I) took our "big" vacation this year and it'll have to last a while. The next big vacation I take would likely be to take my daughter on a big vacation to celebrate one of her big birthdays, but plans may change between now and then for either of us. There are plenty of places I'd love to go and take her, or someone else with me, but I want to manage my finances and do it the right way rather than spending money I don't have to go now. I'll get there eventually, and hopefully have plenty of time to enjoy it (my vacation) when I do.
