kewlpad 1.3 out

Hi,
I and nevioTH (maybe he writes it as 'neviOTH'? I can't remember) have just released kewlpad 1.3, an update to our skinnable notepad.

Included are some really nice gadgets, that are intended to make actual work with app quite fun.
Also, there's mouse-wheel support (finally) by Dave Buckner, who joined the team.

A replaceable Flash logo/animation would be kind of cool. If you don't mind my asking, what language is Kewlpad developed in?

Hurray! By the way, you could use and abuse that "submit news" link I see before me and get more exposure on the front page.

Hmmm... What do You want with a flash animation in a text editor ? I'm still missing right-click
copy/paste/cut in it to make it my preffered editor...

AJ, the animation is totally replaceable - Each skin can provide one, or you can do it yourself, just put 'spinner.swf' file where the skin is.

kewlpad was written in VB (you can download some of the code from the website).

And about the copy/paste thing:
k-pad is supposed to be 'simple-style'.
Features that have a common short-cut will just take space in the menu. We delibaretly didn't want to have File, Edit, View, Blah...

O.K., O.K., that was my last try...
Didn't know about that animation, though...

Copy Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert
Cut Ctrl+X or Shift+Delete
Paste Ctrl+V or Shift+Insert
Select all Ctrl+A
Undo Ctrl+Z or Alt+Backspace

All are standard keys, handled by the underlying Windows RichEdit control. Well, I assume so, I tested them in my self-coded skinned text editor, not having Kewlpad to hand.

oops again Jafo . Altough my english is not that bad for a non english-speaker (I hope...), it can hepann ().

About the copy/paste thing -
Once again: You can use Ctrl+C/V/X/A, but we won't waste precious menu space to have those features on the menu. You are supposed to be power-users, aren't you?

e-roz has got a point with that. The only time I use copy/paste from a menu is when I'm too lazy to grab the keyboard.

Huh? You mean there is another way to copy/paste than Control+C/Control+V?

The spinning logo is totally useless but since it really does in no perceivable way slow down the application, I think it's a cool little gadget.
Of course only skinners who can make Flash animations will be able to make their own so it sucks a little. But since the SWF format is now open source, I wouldn't be surprised if future versions of Photoshop and PaintShop Pro will be able to save animations in SWF.

Anyway, good job guys! kewlpAd is one of my favorite skinnable applications, you've done a trerric job speading it up too! It's now pretty close to notepad in opening speed, which is a big plus for a text editor. Way to go!

VIM is the spawn of Satan I tell you. One has to be really twisted to figure out how to use that. Decyphering Linear-B is easier than using VIM.

never heard of Linear-B, but i started with vi, and worked up. anyway, i didnt have any choice, since that is the editor i had to use under Unix. trouble is that once you get used to it (say 2 years), word and notepad, ect, are really no use at all in comparison, so now i have vim for windows to!!!
