You can now post on the forums using the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch

Just wanted to give you guys a quick update to let you know that you can now post on the forums using the iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch in the Safari app.

Note that the editor is disabled, and you will only have access to a regular text box for inputting messages, so you will not be able to do any special formatting.  However, HTML is enabled for that text box, so you can type it out manually if you'd like.

Do you have issues posting with Android?  Can you explain the problem?

Truth be told, I was just on your case, it seems it's always a focus on the iOS these days, never the Android OS :)

But that said! I just tried using my HTC Desire running 2.2, and I couldn't actually get a keyboard to show up when quoting your post and trying to type in the Quick Reply box. =(

I personally have an Android device (the very first one actually, the G1) and have a hatred of all things Apple.  But I also know that according to our statistics iOS is the most-used modern, mobile OS, so it makes sense to target them for bug fixes.  I don't generally use my Android phone to browse the forums, but I'll start doing so to see what problems exist and to resolve them :)

It seems this may not actually be working, at least from Wincustomize.

Stumbled across the ability in another thread and it definitely works on JU - did this reply on my iPad.

Nice, but hows about a Joeuseser or Stardock app just for forums. That would be interesting.

Note: If you are still having problems posting, please do a couple of refreshes or wait a short while.  I don't think a "hard refresh" exists for the Safari app so we are in Apple's mercy as to when the Javascript will get refreshed.

Neil's problem was resolved simply by waiting.

Hey, Bara. Do you have any idea when the quote, smilies, bold, etc. options will be enabled/compatible with Safari, Atomic browser or Terra? I use my iPad at work and when I get a break I like to cruise...this being the first port. Hope Walnut1 didn't ruin your weekend, old bud. Posted from my iPad. ;)

I suspect that won't happen for a while.  It would require replacing our current editor with something entirely different that is iPad compatible.  Unfortunately, the iPad usage on the forums is very low so it isn't worth all of the work to do so.

Thanks ... Not the answer I hoped to hear, but that's life.

I am hoping to begin work on a "forum v2" sometime next year.  I was planning on looking into a different editor at that time.  I'll be sure to look into one that has iPad support, but no promises.
