[Cities] Easy Way to Totally Destroy Capture Cities

I would like an easy way to destroy captured cities. A simple one button option. Currently, you can destroy improvements but not the whole city.

Destroying cities is valid strategy as it means that your invading army doesn't have to garrison cities after they fall.

Of course, destroying cities could have a few bad side effects - other lords would tend to be more hostile towards you and the growth (spawning) of hostile creatures would be facilitated. and some of your champions might leave your service.  The ruins of a city could also serve as the spawning point for the undead (if there were any in Elemental).

I second this strongly. It is of course genocide and should have a few side effects.

I like how, in AoWSM, if you destroy a city (or any structure, for that matter) a group of avengers or what-not is spawned.  Destroy a city and a group of militia spawns and comes after you.  Would be cool

Currently, it is possible to destroy a city.

I think you have to research a specific tech first.

Once you have it, you can click on the city (that circle in the center-bottom of the screen with an image of the city).

From there, it will open up the city page from which you can choose to raze the city.

Actually and this may be a bug but all you have to do is have city selected and hit the x key no research needed at all..  during beta you did have to research it but not since last beta release.. so select city and just hit x any troops are automatically moved out..

Also IIRC, the option to raze a city appears in the city summary screen (the one where you have the "rename" option), after you research said tech.

I like the way Master of Magic handled city auto-destruct. You just had to pump out settles until the population was depleted. And since you only needed to get rid of relatively small towns, 3-4 settlers were enough.

Try selecting the city and hitting 'X'.

Thanks for the tips on destroying the city - select the city picture and just select raze - I could not find it earlier. (I was looking at the actions buttons)

I would still like to see consequences for razing cities;

For the kingdoms - if a kingdom razes cities of another kingdom the other kingdoms may unite against them - this chance increases based on the number of cities you raze - you may even receive a warning from the other kingdom;

"Sovereign XXX, the kingdoms are united in demanding that you cease razing the cities of your fellow kingdoms."

This would further differentiate the Empires from the Kingdoms.

I'd prefer not seeing that done in such a generalized way.  If you are a Kingdom, why would you care if say a captured Empire city were razed?  You'd probably celebrate and congratulate the other Kingdom honestly.  If you are playing an Empire, why would you care if a Kingdom city were razed?  You most likely wouldn't.  What if you are a Kingdom and are at war with an Empire, and an ally Kingdom is also at wat with said Empire?  Why would your ally respond negatively to that?  Also, the people that make up the Empire believe they are "better" than men, so you would think that removing a city of men would be a good thing from their perspective.

In my opinion, you would have to take a lot of things into consideration here.  Which faction created the city, what is the creator Kingdom/Empire's relationship with the Kingdom/Empire you want to apply the reaction to?  What are the relationships with the K/E that razed the city?

If you want to do this well, then it's not really as cut and dry as people are making it sound.

I agree, thats why I said "if a kingdom razes the city of another kingdom". Note that I did not say empire.

My feeling was that the human kingdoms would unite against a fellow human king committing genocide, while the Empire fractions would not care if one of their own was decimating Empire cities.

One of the problems I have with Elemental, is that all of the fractions seem the same. Nothing differentiates one fraction or race from another.
