now its my turn to be pissed.

i was just looking in the LOCKED dev journal titled "fun with A.I.". and brad just made a passing comment that he liked a show and thought it would be cool to capture the essence of said show.  then people started to flame on him about it because they obviously knew EXACTLY what he was going to do.  which is an entirely unreasonable assertion.  now because of it he is going to stay clear of dev journals for a while.  you know, i really enjoy those journals, and now those of you that can't get over it have taken that from me.  do we really have to be this way?  you know instead of instantly flaming the guy, maybe you could ask for a bit of clarification on the matter?  goddamn i am pissed at the internet...

sorry, i had to vent, but does anybody else feel as frustrated as me?

Just look under dev journals.

Yes, but I direct that rage to the same place I direct my sexual frustration, L4D2.

I agree with OP, it is a shame some random internet loud-mouths ruin it for the rest of us.

One of Stardocks best attributes has always been their open communication with their fans. Rather than stop posting I'd much rather see the mods do a crackdown and get the forums back to being a more enjoyable community like it used to be. Start off with some 2-3 day temporary bans, and then go with a full ban if it keeps up.

Make me a mod and I'll chip in with some temp bans.

all i want is to be able to move on, and help make this game great.  i know that making a post like this is prob counter productive to the process.  like if you ignore them, then they will go away sort of thing.  but its stuff like that that's slowing the progress down.  if the dev team is having a hard time keeping us in the loop, or prevented from doing that because of the people that can't control themselves then its going to be hard to stay focused.

I have to agree.. tis sad when the Dev team feels they cant post on their own forums. As others I enjoy the dev posts and journals.. I like to read what they are thinking.. Do not let them stifle the communication because they over analyze what they read or automatically assume what you meant when you said something guys..

Wow, after reading the comments on that dev journal, I think I just witnessed another bout of 'passion' leading to another 'mistake'.  That thread read like a spoiled child threatening to hold his breath after being admonished by a frustrated parent.

Any respect I had for the 'candor' displayed by SD recently was lost at the temper tantrum spurred by a very awesome post by Spyndel.

silly question, but why not just have the dev journals be read only?

i thoroughly enjoy reading what the team is up to, even if i dont agree on every point... and who possibly could?

its going to be hard to debate something deeply when the thread gets locked on page 2.  i don't blame them for doing that when the thread gets hijacked and loses its focus.  after that its pointless to go on. i just want people to stop ruining the threads.

really?  i mean the guy jumped the gun and automatically thought they were going to make elemental into dragon ball z.  you don't think that maybe he could have said "could you elaborate on some of those concepts?"  that would have been a more thoughtful and debatable post.

^^agreed... and in a read only state, the journals become just that - journals; collecting the developers thoughts, and sharing ideas and insights with the community...

yeah i can second that, and if we want to debate the journal we can bring it into the forum.  the journals are on the main page, and is the first thing you see when you come onto the site. this way any nonuseful threads can be locked.

I rolled my eyes when I saw one post that can be summarised as:

"Respectfully, I have to say agree with Spyndel... I don't like this."

And a dev responded to it with "If you don't like it don't post here! Show some respect!"

Over sensitive to criticism much... I mean I understand it. They're hurting and there's a salt in the wounds thing going on, but there is kind of a double standard going on. Frogboy encourages reviewers to review the 1.1 version of the game and says he wants getting berated in the reviews to act as a long standing reminder of what they did wrong... Apparently customers coming onto the forums and complaining about what they did wrong and seeking reassurance from the devs that they are fixing it right is totally out of line however.

Side by side some dev posts are very concerning. In one post they talk about how they were blind and didn't realise all their mistakes leading up to the launch. Then in another post you've got dev saying they know exactly what and everything they did wrong and don't need to be told. It's like... Come on guys... They've got the humility down but certainly not the grace.

Of course we are getting a lot of non constructive flame posts on here. Still I'd rather see the devs talk them down rationally then nuke and lock threads hopping the flamers will just shut up when they are really just making them stew some more. Some won't listen sure, but that's no reason to further inflame the ones that would.

Edit: I do really like this Reply by Frogboy that seems to be response to the complains in that thread though.

Agree completely, for what it's worth. I am (was?) actually pretty excited to hear about upcoming changes, specifically to the magic system that was hinted at, but... I guess if I was working at SD, I'd get pretty tired of having my professional competence questioned on every post, too.

Now is the time for the Elemental community to stop adding to the problems and either choose to be part of the solution, or butt out.

As has been stated, there is now nothing to be gained by bitching and whining. Stardock have taken their kick in the teeth and if we want Elemental to be the best game it can be we've now got to help them get off the floor rather than just keeping on kicking them when they're down.

It is incredibly difficult to work in a creative field where excitement and adrenalin are the things that get you through the late nights. Let alone when you have a whole lot of 'energy vampires' sucking the life out of you.

I for one am very appreciative of how day after day Brad comes in here and bares his soul to us. This makes him an easy mark for those sad and petty individuals who want to take advantage of his openness.

It isn't the criticisms about the game that are the issue. It is the constant personal and character attacks.

The Dev Journals are awesome - warts and all. Please don't stop doing these, Brad.

Really.  The posts in that thread were far from over the top or out of line.  It really shouldn't come down to a 'Oh yeah, well shut up or no more dev journals for you!".  Can't the comment just be ignored?  Actually, disregard that, Spyndel's post was spot on.  As said by him and Atrophobia, where IS the evidence that they understand what the problems are with this game?  It's kinda hard to believe they went from "Totally blind" to omnipotent overnight.  It just doesn't make any sense how you could be that disconnected and all of then suddenly irritated that you are 'painfully aware' of all issues.  Talk about extremes...this is the equivalent of making the entire company clean the latrines when Bill Murray makes a fool out of the sarge...

And they should be done away with.

If complaints/dissatisfaction is expressed with some measure of sense and respect and is not off the topic of the thread/board - it should stay. If it's flaming or trolling - nuke it. If the person that flamed or trolled wants to discuss his/her issue - they can do so without the flaming or trolling.

Doesn't sound unreasonable and is consistent with (what I thought anyway) the forum's rules.

What perosnal and character attacks?  Did you read the thread?  Spyndel had some legitmate concerns and expressed them in a way that while by his own admission were 'grumpy', they were far from ad hominems.  He may have even inferred to much by the comments in the journal.  So what?  Grow a thicker skin.  You can't be 'sorry' for the mistakes of the last 2 weeks and irritated that someone has a negative opinion in the same breath...

I agree with OP but I also would like to see a post that pretty much pleads with Brad to not stop posting on the journals. The journals are what keep me connected to this game still, and I don't want that to be severed as I really have alot of faith in this game and the company and well... saying that I doubt my connection will be severed but I still want journals <3
