Modding Help - Techs

Ok, something's not right.  I'm making simple changes to Techs_Amarian.xml and they are not appearing in the game.  What gives?  I have the file in the Units folder - no luck.  Then I tried editing the actual data/English file - still no luck!  Where is the game getting this info if not from this file?  I also made some changes to CoreSpellBooks.xml, and those show up and work just fine.

Any ideas?

Modding the core files wont take effect unless you delete the data.zip file in the /data folder. From what i hear, personally i avoid modding core files and just use new files in the mod folder

Ok thanks.  What's the folder structure for the mod folder?

For Windows Vista: *Windowsfolder*\Users\*Your Username*\Documents\My Games\Elemental

Still not working for the Techs_Amarian.xml file.  I used this directory (using XP):

C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Elemental\Mods

The changes in the CoreSpellBooks.xml file still appear in game, but not the Techs_Amarian.xml changes.

for XP its "My Documents\My Games\Elemental\" Ive been putting my stuff into the Items folder.

Right now The game doesnt seem to allow seperate Mod folders, need to use the ones there already.

Tried that just now.  Same result.  Guess I'll wait and see if someone else has any success modding the tech files.

did you start a new game, and have the game option "use mods" enabled?

Yes to both.

Really not sure what the problem is here.  I have modded games before (including other Stardock games) so I'd like to believe I'm not completely clueless.

I don't quite know what you want to do, but I suggest recreating the tech tree as a custom one, instead of changing it.  Unless you need to change it, I suggest renaming the copy of the file, and maybe try putting it in these folders (one at a time until you find one that works, assuming that changing the files name does not make it work): Races, RaceTypes, Units and Tiles.
