How do I build a damn farm?!

How do I build a damn farm?!

I cant figure out for the life of me how to build a farm on fertile land thats right beside my city.  I see NPCs that have farms, even mines and such and I cant even figure out how to build mines, or farms, or even on those lost libraries even though they're all in my area of influence.

It seems to me like the real problem here is that there is no tutorial campaign that teaches you how to play the game.  WHat's up with that?  I just want to learn how to play so that I know what I'm doing

It's because the game is drastically different than what it was as release. Agreed they need this for new players but they've been focused on stability recently such as memory and graphics crashes.

I recommend updating to patch 1.11 or even 1.19e so you have the most current version of the game.
Sorry but this excuse doesn't hold.

a) There was no tutorial scenario at release (and still isn't any).

b) There wasn't a thorough manual at release (and still isn't any)

c) In the age of the internet, how difficult would it be to make the tutorial and a PDF manual updatable with every patch? It wouldn't take much more time than writing one of those patch logs documenting the changes.

No, the real reason was given to us even before release by Frogboy himself: "I don't like tutorials. People who play 4X games should be able to play EWoM!" X|

And sure thing, the days after release, the forum was crowded by threads asking "How do you do this? How do you do that?" and the reviewers found there another nail for the coffin.

Once again, why not JUST do it like the old good games we like? AoW and Dominions series have each a tutorial mini-scenario AND it is thoroughly detailed in the manual to the point of "Right-click on this! Left-click on that! Go there!" AND it is illustrated with screenshots! :inlove:

So, for Fallen Enchanteress, no lame excuses please! We want:

- a tutorial

- a manual

- a demo ( not for us, poor early buyers, but for those waiting to buy...if the game is worth it)

I agree it needs to be done. I doubt Derek thinks that ideally new players should be thrown to the wolves (or spiders). So it's really a matter of when and how many resources should be allocated to work on this. We all know there's many things we'd like fixed yesterday or months ago so to eat this elephant they gotta choose where to bite first. The stability concerns are certainly #1 and once that's resolved, then the debate about what should come next, etc. For me, I'll post about the AI. For someone else it's the fact that 10 competing popups at the beginning of a turn, for someone else the shop UI, etc. So yeah, I hear ya and don't disagree. It's all a competition for resources really. Derek makes the final call.

Too late for yesterday or months ago, and probably much too late for War of Magic anyway.

Like you say, let's let the team fix all others features BUT Fallen Enchanteress MUST have a tutorial the day it's gonna be sold; I don't care if they put it in the day before .

It just seems to me to be mandatory for a game.

I long for the old days, circa Civ II.  That game came with a huge, inch and a half thick manual that covered every damn thing in the game.

Now, Civ V doesn't even have a real manual.
