CTD on starting new game from within existing game

After playing for 80 turns, I decided to abandon the game and start a new one.  I hit escape, brought up the main menu, and selected "New Game".  The game crashed.

I know that this problem was reported during the beta, and it was stated that it was low priority to fix during the beta, but I thought that it was implied that it would be fixed before release.
