[WIP] Forgotten Factions: Kalandra (Amazons)

This is mod about "Amazons". I'm making it primarily for learning purposes: knowing the XMLs, messing with the tile builder, textures... Once fully finished, it shouldn't play very different from a Kingdom faction (as they are right now, if we ever reach a Twilight of the Arnor level, then this mod would require more "meat"). I wanted to add some "touches" to it but after the release and some plans by Stardock to change magic system, I may have to wait before I follow those ideas I had.

Details:

  • The faction has two Channelers: the primary and a secondary. This secondary may have to wait due to those changes in the magic system though. Both include custom Sovereign History trait.
  • All the units are female. You can recruit male champions and all that but units recruited are all female. Once I can get into details with the tech tree and unique units, that might change a bit.
  • Terrain chosen is desert. Why? Well, why not?
  • Magic orientation: Fire. Related to the desert choice. This could change based on those changes to the magic system by Stardock. I really hope that specializing in one type of magic will be possible. Currently not recommended.
  • Custom skins: I find female skins difficult to work with but I'm on it. I have made a few and they mostly suck but slowly it'll improve and reinforce the faction theme.
  • Custom buildings: Lately I have been working on this. So far only most of the level 1 buildings and not including their "building" phase (not until I have them all as final versions). I'll revisit the ones done when I improve my skills and/or as needed. I'm finding difficult to align some things, scales... The editor is kind of cool and really powerful but sometimes feel it a bit frustrating. (damned Y axis!!!)
  • Custom tech tree: Not yet. I had some things but back to square one. Again waiting for changes by Stardock to decide about some things.

LOL, nice work. The Amazon's must be popular because that was one of the first civilizations I made too. I used the Tarth as a base, are you creating an entirely new Amazonian race? I look forward to seeing that! Also, just a note for you, you can include more then one thing in an .xml file. For example, you could include your race, the leader, and any special items in one single .xml file for distribution if you want. Makes things a little more simpler for the user.

Look forward to seeing how they turn out!

One of my first ideas too, but I like the look of yours so I might be all set. ^_^

I am waiting a few play throughs before I use any mods though, I need to "review" the game for my site.

For me Amazons are so staple in the fantasy realm as pegasus, medusa or the minotaur (greek mythology ftw!!!!). With the current trend of having mostly egalitarian fantasy societies (there are exceptions like Forgotten Realm's drow), Amazons may seem a bit out of place but I like them.

I have made clone files for faction, sovereign, units... using Tarth as base (haven't changed description texts... that would be last). The idea would have them as faction (like we have Altar or Pariden) and race (like we have Men or Amarians). Fully functional. About file usage, for now I prefer to have different files for each thing but not sure what I will do in the future about it. For release and commodity of the user (installing and/or deleting it), I'd stick to use just one file though.

The game could surely use different approaches to the same type of faction. specially in the tech tree, which is the spirit of the faction (along with faction abilities, I suppose).

*trips and falls*

Ops! :P

Just so you know that I'm (slowly) working on it.

Heh, I tried making a nation sort of similar to yours. Gave up when I realized I couldn't get rid of the Kingdom of part of the name (Amazons with a king?). Bet the developers never thought that would ever be an issue.

Working on aquatic-themed nation instead. :seal:

DisplayName in the RaceConfigs solves that for common texts (as far as I checked but not a priority right now for me) and the only problem would be the Menus.

Maybe when modding the menus is possible, it can changed somehow.

Just letting you know that I keep working on it. It has been a playable faction for a while, despite some bugs, and hoping to slowly create all the needed buildings so I can consider it a "releasable" mod. Plus I may even have some "decent" skins for it by then. XD

You did a really good job on this, bravo and k1 I only wish the dev team would create some unique factions, because all empire are basically different flavors of the same bland bad guys and all kingdoms are basically more than less the same flavor of the same bland good guys.

By the way the custom buildings are really impressive.
