Failed installation

Hi!

I've pre-ordered Elemental previously and am now trying to download it via Impulse.

Unfortunately I don't have a very stable phone line; it got flooded in a storm not long ago and I still get disconnected every once in a while, probably every half an hour to an hour. Whenever it happens, Impulse stops downloading Elemental and tells me that the file size is smaller than expected. It won't let me resume the download; instead it just starts from 0%. ):

A friend of mine's downloaded his copy already. Will I be able to grab the archive file off him and activate it on my account using the serial number I received after purchasing the game?

Please excuse the passive aggressive quip, but this just never happens on Steam. (:

Cheers,

hyper

Unfortunately, no, the archives are user specific.  You could log in on his machine and use the download and archive feature in Impulse to get your archive though (right click on the game entry and select "Download and Archive")

Impulse has the ability to pause and resume a download if the connection drops.  If you're getting a smaller than expected error I would guess that the traffic you are receiving is being corrupted in transit.  At worst you should be seeing it retrying the download multiple times.

If you use a download manager with resume, you can download the game through your browser via Impulse Anywhere (or just download it normally at your friend's house through same). Making archives off your friend's installed copy isn't liable to work since he may have a different version of windows and will be using a different Impulse account.

Looks like Impulse Anywhere is the go. I downloaded the installer, but when I try to download any of the data archives, I get a file not found error. Tried refreshing and accepting the terms and conditions again, same deal. Download manager fails to find it too.

[EDIT] Here is the error when I click on any of the data files in IA:

File not found when looking for elemental 1.00.010

Impulse Anywhere may not yet have the latest version of Elemental.  I'll see about getting that fixed.

I had the same problem - both size smaller than expected and multiple attempts to download. However, now Impulse Anywhere seems to have the latest version of the file again and I am downloading off it :)
