Shared Co-op Multiplayer

Disclaimer: Not having played the beta, I don't know if this is feasible.

It reads as though multiplayer has some updates coming in the future to get it up to Stardock's top notch quality. If it hasn't been discussed already, I'd like to suggest that they consider allowing an option for two players to share control of a team in multiplayer mode.

I remember some past games like Age of Empires/Age of Kings where two players could operate the same team. This was nice in that you could split up responsibilities. Maybe one of the players likes harvesting and finding resources and the other player might be more interested in the fighting aspect of the game. It was a lot of fun playing against the AI cooperatively in this configuration.

Is this even a possibility with EWOM or are the game mechanics so different that shared co-op wouldn't work?

Thanks

Well age of empires is an RTS and elemental is turnbased. So there really is no need for this mechanism since you dont have to worry about multitasking.

Civ 4 had a mode something like this, but you still controlled your own cities (you were a team for things like diplomacy and victory).

Elemental would have to go a similar way, it'd be pretty confusing for two players to share a single sovereign. A "team" where you start off in permanent alliance makes more sense with the game mechanics.

Yeah, going to agree with hermes here.  No real point in sharing a sovereign in a turn based strategy game...

Anno 1440 venice had the shared faction thing aswell, was interesting but mutliplayer was a sandbox there and didn't last long. I find it much more fun with seperate empires but with preset alliances that share vision, wars - just not resources.

Civ4 is a great example of how to do it well. Total War is an example of how to do co-op terribadly.

Starting in alliance/teams would be a great option to have. I prefer starting out on my own and having the thrill of finding the others myself and then allying with my friends, but the option to do it the other way works for me too.

could be funny as a mod or MP mode to have some players be champions and others rulers. The former could get equipement in towns depending on the rulers techs/buildings, and work for the rulers. Rulers would build cities and armies ^^ Two major aspects of the game split for cooperation. Chapions could join a kingdom or remain mercenaries/free, offer their help for money.

But, I dont see why 2 Sovereigns couldn't govern one faction?

EDIT: My point is to share a faction, not a sovereign. 2 (or more) players would share resources, cities, borders, line of sight, units and design blueprints, well everything. The only thing that would be controlable by only one player would be sovereigns themselves, and perhaps their dynasties, rest is shared.
