Project Goal: Create new and hopefully more interesting pacts

Maybe your like me and wondered why you couldn't share technology with diplomatic pacts and maybe a little bored with the current pacts...

If so, this is the effort for you.

I'm looking for ideas to improve the diplomatic research trees by providing pacts that are capable of sharing technology and abilities in addition to research modifiers.

Pacts can be modifications to existing pact types or completely new ideas... sky's the limit here.

 

Whats possible: 

  1. Sharing tactical structures based on pact type
  2. Sharing frigates based on pact type
  3. Sharing cruisers based on pact type
  4. Sharing capital ships based on pact type
  5. Sharing tactical structures abilities based on pact type
  6. Sharing ship abilities based on pact type
  7. Sharing structure abilities based on pact type

 

Important: Pacts function one-way. So while I can differ the technology bonus for the receiving end, I can't differ for the giver. For example, I can vary the shield technology bonus (see example below) differently for TECH versus Vasari for an Advent pact... I can't differ the Advent bonus based on the receiver... if that makes sense to you.

Current pacts even this out by only using research bonuses which are identical between the receiving and giving side.

There is already 9 ot of 9 tactical structures. Will this use up a civilian slot?

There is a couple meshes not used in the game. Fleet command and market I think.

You are probably thinking of logistics slots being full. There are actually several free tactical spots in all three races. Advent has one free logistics slot and Vasari and TEC are full. I'll have to look at the unused meshes, thats interesting... didn't know that.

Is it possible to pre-requisite pact formation? Or is that like a game event and can't be done. For instance, say I create a pact that 2 different races can access and research but then on the formation of the pact it then enables both races to research a new technology.

I was thinking about your mod and if any of this line of thinking would be useful... But to your questions.

Pacts are tricky little beasts (see Manage Pacts Hardcoded?).

The pacts (allianceType) are hardcoded to the existing pact types. You can research the same allianceType in two different races but there are wierd side affects if you form a pact between those two races (see previous link).

This might be close to what you are asking though...

I've tested out a modification that gives PhaseJumpGate technology to TECH and PSI if they form a Phase Drive pact with Vasari. I didn't try linking research for the Phase gate technology for TECH and PSI but I'm assuming it would operate in a similar fashion. It would also be possible to link some new phase technology for Vasari based on the formation of the pact.

Let me know if this is close to what you were thinking. If not, we can try and hash it out further.

Yes, that was along the lines of what I was looking at doing.

So if you have made that pact, created some Phase stabilizers, pact is then broken for what ever reason, are the stabilizers still usable? Or do they become obsolete?

I am thinking that they become obsolete from what you have explained. This could be a problem if with the pact you are then able to build a combined Capital. Then when the pact is broken the capitals you have built would become dead in the water or blow up or something. I guess I should give it a go and see what happens. We may just need to put the research for the building of these Capitals in the right spot so only the ability to build them is disabled when the pact is broken. IDK. If I understand correctly, if we make the research to access the capitals identical between all the races it should work.

Could you please send me the modification you have made.

I set this example up so the currently built phase gates are still usuable. You can't build anymore if the pact is broken. This should alleviate some of your concerns.

 I'll package up what I have done so you can take a look at a simple example.

What if you were able to use an allies available tac/logestic slots on their planets if all your are used up.

So.. I just finished debugging a rather persistent mini-dump in my main mod and decided to take a break and revisit this effort. Here is a first iteration of an Advent extended diplomacy research. Basically, I've focused on sharing of technologies and research that can benefit the advent race. The extended diplomacy research is all predicated on specific pacts being formed in order to perform the research (shown in second screen shot). When I get another free opportunity I'll look at doing the same for TECH and Vasari.

Yep, I've decided I'll only have time for research and technology sharing (i.e. no time to create new abilities or modules). I'm hoping SuperZERO will release his new diplomacy add-ons soon which should add hybrid ships between the races. I think he was going to try and maybe implement something similar to this approach. Haven't heard from him lately so don't know for sure...

Note: The pact mod only contains diplomacy extensions for Advent. You will need to play as advent and make nice with TECH and/or VASARI to gain access to the research.
