[Suggestion; Forum]Additional board for fandom, creative writing and roleplay.

Because some of us are even geekier than the rest.

This is not so much a suggestion that has to do with the game as it is something that more concerns the community and the area around the game.
When I look at the forums, I find myself hopelessly searching up and down for a 'Roleplay'-board, a sub-forum where people can go and write creatively by sharing their tales and adventures of the game in a more eloquent and refined way than say, uploading a bunch of pictures and going:

"Here I built food city, it crank out many %. Me no starve nao! :D :D :D" as an example.

A board that would allow people to share their tales of war, blood, love and sorcery in the world of Elemental, where people could spin and weave sagas of epic conflicts, underhanded betrayal, insurmountable hardships and what else have you. A place for people to upload one of their cloth-maps and tell others to come and join them, as they play a post-by-post adventure of their own online. Simply put, a place where people can write and read and play Elemental in yet another form and way, without the need of creating fansites or off-site forums specifically dedicated to this particular pursuit.

I'm sure some of you find it silly, or stupid or both. I'm sure some of you will tell me to do various things and not waste "precious" forum/board-space by putting up a suggestion that nobody cares about. And you may be right, but I'm fairly certain that there at least a few others out there in the community who would also like to at least try this out. Who knows? Maybe one day, a tale so grand might be told that it actually makes it into the game as some sort of questline or event or maybe even gets converted into a custom-campaign?

Yours sincerely,
Xaltwind.

I'd sign up for something like this. I truly enjoy reading things like this, and I may even try my hand at it myself depending upon how robust the game is once I've gotten hold of it.

Definitely agree!  Elemental is a game just filled to the bursting point with all the right elements (ahem) for fan fic writers to churn out pages and pages of material.  The fellas over on the Sins of a Solar Empire have done so, along with the GalCiv guys (I've written some stuff for both, too!), and neither of those games have as much RPG potential as Elemental.  Only the best games engage me with such strong immersion that I am compelled to chronicle my adventures.  Knowing Stardock's touch, I expect Elemental will do so as well.

So, a big "Yes!" to a fan fic / art sub-forum!  I suspect we're gonna need it!

Hoho! I'm so glad to see supporters rally to the banner and join the good cause! But surely we must have more allies out there? Come, do not be afraid, we who write will not bite... Hard... Err, I mean, at all.

To give a little sample to some people, I shall write a little segement here. Note that I have not actually played the beta of Elemental, and what I base my scene on is purely on what I've seen from screenshots, videos and read about here on the website and forum.

The Great Wastes.

The whipping wind and searing heat was a constant nuisance. It plagued the body of the worn and weary man as he trudged on, endlessly walking through these harsh, inhospitable lands. Sand and dirt from the ground would ceaselessly get swept from the earth and viciously assault his body, his face, his clothes... The grime and dust had built up over the last few hours, now it almost completely covered all of his being. Once his clothes had been a vivid green and red, but now they were nothing more than tan and grey-colored rags that clung his sweating back and itched like there was no tomorrow. Why then? Why did he proceed with this fruitless venture out in the great, desolate plains of nothingness? Why did dhe not turn back and seek shelter in the somewhat decripit and festering tavern that he had previously been visiting? Simple, he was Argyle the Channeler, and he was a man destined for greater thing than cheap, watered-down mead and tavern-wenches as ugly as those Fallen wretches.

Yes indeed, Argyle the Channeler was a man who had a dream, a goal and a purpose. Even in this ravaged and forsaken world that for most held not even the faintest or dimmest light of hope anymore, Argyle still held on to his vision. He would not let such a trivial matter as infertile, dusty soil get in his way, nor would he care for the sparse and charred stumps of black sticks that were supposed to have been trees protruding every once in a while. No, he was on a quest, and a grand one at that, to seek out a place that he had learned about from the aforementioned tavern which he had frequented some hours back. The rumor had been a fuzzy and unreliable one, some strangers over at a table, knee-deep in cheap ale, had been cackling and yapping on for the most extended period of time. They had been talking about their bravery and skill, how they had overcome countless perils of the wastelands and how they had each done a deed which overshadowed the rest and would put any legendary hero to shame by comparison.

Argyle had of course paid no heed to these sorry sods, dismissing them as nothing more than worthless and unsavory riff-raff, who only had hot air blowing out of their gaping food-holes and nothing more. Still, as one of the drunkards had spoken up, the words and tale that he told even managed to pique the ears of the dismissive Channeler, as he sat alone at his table over by the corner. The drunk spoke of him having been out, not too far east from this very tavern, and found himself a spot where green grass and moist soil could be found. He also, naturally, boasted about how it was guarded by a fierce creature that he battled long and hard, and while he could not defeat it entirely, he still managed to mortally wound and cripple it. The other lushes laughed heartily and shook their heads, obviously not buying into this story in the slightest. They roughly slapped the fellow's back and told him try and weave a better wives-tale to brag about, even though their own stories had been no different at all.

Still, this had been enough, yes quite enough indeed, to spark interest and curiosity. Could there really be such a place? A patch of land in this endless, unforgiving terrain which was not dead and withered? Even if it was the gossip of a drunken and pitiful liar, it was still worth investigating, for even the biggest of lies held some truth somewhere.  And this was why he, the great Channeler, would set out and find this mysterious area, claim it and work his magic upon it! Yes, he would use his mysterious powers to help the fertile spot expand and grow, to cover and conquer this forsaken waste, to bring life back into the world and breathe a breath of fresh air into the nearly extinguished flame of hope. But... In order to do all that, he first needed to find the damned place! And he had not been out here for just an hour or so either, no, he had left the tavern early this morning to get as far as he could and yet he had not even seen the tiniest hint of the fabled grass.

Could it be that it was just a tall tale then? That there really was no such thing? Of course, if you stopped and thought about it, it did make sense. Why would there just randomly be a patch of grass and dirt out in the wilds which was not dried up and covered in sand? The more he thought about it, the more Argyle's patience dwindled. Was he running a fool's errand, searching for something that did not exist? Chasing a fable spun by some piss-baked tavern-lush he claimed he could wrestle bears and dragons with his bare fists? The Channeler slapped himself over the face, sending specks of dirt and sweat flying. How could he have been so stupid, to actually have believed such a childish tale! This was madness, there was nothing out here! Nothing but sand and dust and stones and death! And here he was, the great Argyle, strutting about and looking for a fairy tale...

As the mageling walked on and cursed under his breath, he neglected to take in his surroundings... Perhaps had he not been so conerned with his reputation and ego, he might have spotted the multi-eyed horror which was now patiently stalking and following his every move... Alas, the Channeler was far too slow at shaking his head and returning to reality, for as he turned his head to look back at the source of some strange noise, he could not but shout in terror as a gargantuan, eight-legged spider of ridiculous proportions came rushing towards him! He stumbled, he fell, crawling, desperately crawling, trying to push himself up again. The sand, the dirt, it all got in his eyes and mouth, where was he? Disoriented and confused, frightened, the sound of the beast getting closer, what to do?!

... The screams that echoed mere moments later were drowned up, concealed and shushed by the howling winds as it continued to sweep across the wasteland plains...

There was this six months ago, but the game has prevented the user from really getting into the story or even creating our own. FE is going to be able to tell the story of Elemental through the quest system. Hopefully this will foster new stories to be shared on the forum. I am planning a few tales of chivalry in the fight against overwhelming evil to be told through the quest system. I plan to make a thread that will be a walkthrough and storyteller for anyone interested.

I believe the correct subforum would be Elemental Fiction if any of you want to look at what was done before.
