Looking forward to an afternoon in a cold room

I've got some work lined up for this afternoon that will likely find me spending an hour or so in the cold room here at work... the old school, raised floor, separately ventilated computer room where the average temp is normally in the 50's.  Personally, I'm loving the thought of it as this afternoon is going to be yet another very steamy day in my area.  High humidity + high heat = very uncomfortable me.

I might not have been looking forward to the afternoon had it not been for the fact that a fire alarm was set off in the building thanks to some construction/mechanical/electrical work that was happening.  Apparently someone didn't follow through on proper planning/procedures and the alarm was accidentally triggered.  Going outside to stand around for the better part of an hour in the heat and humidity wasn't that fun.  Thankfully it was late morning and not in the hottest part of the day, but still not comfortable.

The weather for the next few days is supposed to be fairly warm, though we might get some wild weather on Wednesday and Thursday that will hopefully cool things off.  Assuming that the called for afternoon T-storms don't do too much damage, I don't mind them at all, though there are plenty of areas in the region that are getting very tired of cleaning up the damage and going without power thanks to earlier storms.

Gonna stop here for now, but hope everyone has a great day.

I do not mind a run into the computer rooms, but the contrast is just too great for me to revel in it.  However in the winter, it is actually a nice warm place compared to the outside (we cool to the low 70s, and of course work space is only heated to the upper 60s)

I'm surprised that we continue to have our cold room remain that cold.  Honestly, I don't think it needs to be there any more and we could probably get away with having the temps be in the mid 60's which would likely save a decent amount of energy, in turn saving money.  But we've never addressed that issue at work.  Perhaps I should push that issue a bit to see if we could save some $$ for everyone ;)

It takes 15 minutes for the temperature to rise 20 degrees when the AC is turned off.  I know, ours failed.  After 30 minutes, it is over 100.  I walked in one day and the thermometers on the servers had maxed out at 120, and the AC had only been off an hour. (no telling how hot it really was - the metal was too hot to touch).

That is why they keep it so cold - to give the admins time to shut things down should the AC fail.
