San Francisco wants new ordinance to... Restrict cell phone toiwer build outs if they aren't pretty.

http://www.cnet.com/8301-17918_1-20013482-85.html

Under the Personal Wireless Service Facility Site Permits Ordinance (PDF), introduced Tuesday by SF Supervisor John Avalos, antenna applicants would have to consider the visual impact of any new installations. The city could also reject applications based on that factor alone.

Okay...  What is this crap exactly?  if the hippie voters were so concerned about pretty things why are they voting in Nanci Pelosi?

And all the while San Francisco bitches about bad cell phone reception...

there is also the worry of land values (which would appeal to the non hippies) as an ugly cell tower would lower value where as a nice looking or disguised cell tower would either marginally raise or not effect land value

personally I don't care but I know of others that do (for various reasons)

I could see if a cell tower was in someone's backyard, but a mile or two away isn't gonna hurt you even if you see it.  A cell tower is easily visible nearby and I get a constant 2.2 mb d/1.2 mb u 70 ping 3g connection at home.

If the hippies are that concerned over pretty cell phone towers, they should go back to long hair, tye die, and chuck their cell phones.

Let's get all hot and bothered by this.

Let's start a movement.

Let us devote our life to stopping this madness.

Where will it end?

Next thing you know, they will want to make fire hydrants prettier. They will want to dictate color matching of eye makeup to stop signs. They will want all of us to wear a flower in our hair.

Madness. Insane madness!

And, I tell you, if 'they' dictate that I wear a flower in my hair to match the eye shadow to match the fire hydrant matching in compliance with the stop sign color code of my local street that must also conform to the rainbow demands of equality - I think I'll just go eat some worms.

Then, I'll get really serious about reversing all this crap.

If that's a sarcastic reply to my comment above, know that I really don't care what San Francisco does.  Private laws governing your own private land pretty much cover cell phone use, and their is a reason why cell phone providers are beginning to avoid San Fran.

I am fine with an ugly cell phone tower nearby.  A mile away doesn't hurt home prices, and we have no issues with cell phone coverage, unlike San Fran.  My point still stands, if they want to stay in the stone age, this is a good way to do it.

Down in Imperial Valley, they  have camouflaged their towers to look like Palm trees.  if that is all SF wants, I see no reason not to oblige them.  However, knowing their mania for self destruction, I suspect it is something more.,
